About Squircle

Squircle - about the game

Squircle is a casual indie game for PC that combines precise aiming with reactive physics in a neon-lit arena. Players launch glowing shapes across a floating grid, guiding them into matching holes while the board itself responds to every impact and sink. The experience blends quick arcade sessions with deliberate level-based play, all built around six distinct shapes and their corresponding targets.

Gameplay

Core play revolves around charging a launcher to fire shapes like circles, triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, and stars. Each shape must reach its dedicated hole to score, with incorrect matches bouncing away from the rim. Holes provide gravity assistance for nearby matching shapes, rewarding careful aim over raw power. The floating grid arena features bumpers and pads that send shapes ricocheting in unpredictable paths, similar to pinball or miniature golf mechanics.

The playfield operates as a living mass-spring system. Impacts cause visible waves, dents, and ripples across the grid, while sinks create localized dips. Explosions generate shockwaves that propagate outward. This reactive surface sits against a drifting galactic backdrop in deep blues, purples, and magentas, with glowing hole rims and starfield details visible through each opening. Sinking a shape produces the visual effect of it dropping into open space.

Power-ups appear during runs to alter hole sizes, shape speeds, or provide score boosts. A one-tap ability offers additional mid-run options. The system emphasizes judgment and timing, as soft shots often outperform full-power launches when shapes approach their targets slowly.

Game Modes

Pinball mode delivers a five-minute score chase on a newly generated board each session. Multiple shapes can remain active simultaneously, creating multiball situations. Collisions between identical shapes trigger explosions with bonuses, while different shapes bounce apart for additional points. A global multiplier builds with consistent scoring and shifts color as it increases, then cools during quiet periods. At the end of the timer, a final multiplier applies based on per-shape sink counts across all six types, encouraging balanced play. Friends leaderboards track high scores for repeated attempts.

Golf mode presents a series of handcrafted levels where all six shapes start on the board. The goal is to sink every shape in the fewest strokes possible. The launcher relocates after initial shots to the next selected shape, allowing full 360-degree aiming from new positions. Players fire from wherever each shape comes to rest, and clever shots can influence other shapes toward or away from their holes. Scoring tracks strokes against par for each shape, with faster completions boosting an end multiplier. Separate leaderboards exist for each individual level.

Controls and Platform Features

Input options include mouse-only, mouse-and-keyboard combinations, and keyboard-only setups, all selectable within the game. The design supports couch play and Steam Deck use alongside traditional desktop setups. Controller support is planned for release. The no-fail-state structure in Pinball mode keeps sessions accessible, while Golf mode rewards precision and strategic thinking across its levels.

Is It Worth Playing?

Squircle appeals to players who enjoy short, repeatable arcade sessions or more measured puzzle-style challenges within a single physics framework. The two modes reuse the same core elements yet create distinct rhythms: one focused on frantic scoring and multipliers, the other on stroke efficiency and level mastery. Its pick-up-and-play nature suits casual sessions, while the emphasis on aim, timing, and grid reactions offers depth for repeated play. As an upcoming single-player title with leaderboards, it targets those seeking original casual mechanics rather than established franchises or competitive multiplayer. The reactive visuals and straightforward rules make it approachable for a wide audience interested in indie arcade experiences.
