How to Activate a Steam CD Key

Follow these simple steps to activate your Steam game key and start playing immediately.

Open Steam Client
Launch the Steam application on your computer. If you don't have Steam installed, download it from store.steampowered.com and create a free account.

Go to Games Menu
In the top menu bar, click on Games to open the dropdown menu.

Select Activate a Product on Steam
Click on Activate a Product on Steam option in the dropdown menu.

Accept the Agreement
Read and accept the Steam Subscriber Agreement by clicking I Agree.

Enter Your Product Key
Type or paste your CD key in the provided field. The key is usually in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

Complete Activation
Click Next to verify your key. If valid, the game will be added to your library and you can start downloading.
What is a Steam Key?
A Steam key (also called CD key or product key) is an alphanumeric code that allows you to redeem and download a game on the Steam platform. Keys are typically 15 characters long in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
Where can I find my Steam key?
If you purchased a game from a third-party store, the key is usually:
- Displayed on the order confirmation page
- Sent to your email
- Available in your account on the store website
