About Imperionis

Imperionis - about the game

Imperionis is a single-player tactical RPG set during a Roman military campaign in Gaul. Players assume the role of a commander responsible for a century of troops, managing daily decisions across a 150-day campaign while engaging in hex-based battles and personal duels.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on resource allocation and progression across two parallel tracks. Each in-game day offers three actions that can go toward training troops, treating injuries, resting units, improving the camp, or advancing the route through Gaul. Text-based events interrupt the march with choices whose results hinge on the commander's attributes, the century's overall condition, available equipment, and a D20 roll. These outcomes directly influence health, morale, supplies, troop strength, and the setup for upcoming fights.

Development splits between the commander and the century. The commander gains personal attributes and combat skills while collecting weapons, armor, and travel gear. The century unlocks doctrines, orders, new characters, and distinct unit types such as legionaries, auxiliary infantry, ranged troops, cavalry, standard-bearers, scorpions, and onagers. Each branch tracks its own veterancy and fills a specialized role inside the battle group.

Turn-based combat unfolds on a hex grid where players control multiple units with varying movement ranges and attack options. Battles support full manual control or resolution through autobattle. When enemies reach the commander, personal duels resolve using the commander's attributes, skills, and equipment. Objectives vary and include eliminating all enemies, holding a position, breaking through enemy lines, protecting a specific unit, or defeating an opposing commander.

Camp management runs alongside combat. Players balance supplies, medicine, morale, and troop strength while choosing development paths that shape future events and battles. Losses, chosen upgrades, and unlocked units carry forward to alter how the campaign progresses.

Game Modes

Imperionis centers on a single continuous campaign that combines daily management, event resolution, and tactical combat. The structure remains consistent throughout the 150 in-game days, with no separate modes or scenarios confirmed at this time. All progression, from unit unlocks to commander equipment, feeds into this one overarching experience.

Within the campaign, players alternate between strategic decisions on the map and direct control of hex-grid battles. Autobattle options allow faster resolution when desired, while manual play lets players execute specific orders and positioning. The legacy system activates upon campaign failure, carrying select results into subsequent attempts and encouraging repeated playthroughs with different development choices.

Campaign Structure and Progression

The campaign advances along a route through Gaul, punctuated by events that test the century's readiness. Three actions per day force trade-offs between immediate survival needs and long-term growth. Equipment and veterancy gained in one phase directly affect performance in later battles, creating a tight connection between management and combat outcomes.

Unit branches develop independently. Infantry, ranged troops, cavalry, standard-bearers, and siege crews each earn veterancy and unlock specialized orders or characters. This layered progression rewards focused investment in particular troop types while maintaining flexibility for varied battle objectives.

Is It Worth Playing?

Imperionis appeals to players who enjoy tactical RPGs that blend turn-based combat with resource and unit management. The hex-grid battles, D20 event resolution, and separate commander and army progression create a focused single-player experience without multiplayer elements. Because the game remains in development and has not yet released, no player reviews or ratings exist to evaluate reception.

Those drawn to historical Roman themes, deliberate daily planning, and the ability to retry campaigns through a legacy system will find the described mechanics align closely with that preference. The option to handle battles manually or via autobattle further broadens accessibility for different play styles. Availability is limited to PC once the title launches.
