About The Book of Plagues

The Book of Plagues - about the game

Plague, famine, panic, trauma and other misfortunes undermine the strength of the inhabitants of the small town of Ludwig, and only a learned doctor is able to change the situation. Not only the doctor's reputation, but even his life depends on successful medical practice. Because the townspeople are simple people, but they will not tolerate charlatans who rob their pockets! Each cured or dead patient can start a whole chain of events and they, one way or another, will affect the life in Ludwig and the plot of the game. In addition to minor ailments and injuries, the scientist doctor will have to face the most dangerous enemy of all - the Bubonic Plague!

To stop the spread of the plague, you'll have to make some tough decisions. Close markets, impose quarantines, restrict the movement of residents, or even burn down infected houses. But remember - every decision has consequences! Measures that are too strict can cause riots, and measures that are too lenient can lead to disaster!

A city has a life of its own. Residents react to your actions, spread rumors, panic or unite. Your reputation and the trust of the townspeople will influence how they perceive your decisions.

The practice of medicine, though dangerous, is very lucrative. Everyone is willing to pay a dime to cure their ailments. Buy different recipes, ingredients, combine them and create medicines to fight diseases. Improve your skills as a doctor, learn new methods of treatment, discover rare recipes and become a true master of your craft. But remember that even the most experienced doctor can't save everyone.

The game is divided into several weeks. Each week, different residents with their own ailments come to see the Plague Doctor - from homeless vagrants to rich gentlemen. The player's task is to find out what the patient is sick and cure him in a mini-game mode of dexterity. Medicines created from ingredients can make healing much easier, but the drugs must first be properly prepared using a distiller. The doctor's pet, Raven Paguba, will witness all of her master's successes and failures. She gives advice on treatment, comments on what is happening and communicates with the doctor, sitting in her cage. However, Paguba is only heard by her master....

The Book of Plagues raises difficult themes and moral dilemmas, and the plot is spiced with a good portion of black humor. The inspiration for the development of the game came from famous literary works and documentaries about the Bubonic Plague of the 14th century, also known as the Black Death.

Are you ready to take on the role of the Plague Doctor and challenge the terrible disease?
