Rise of the Fenarii is a tower defense game set in the world of Vorpus. Players take the role of an Elder tasked with completing the Haustic Seal through a series of campaigns that blend tower placement, resource drafting, and narrative choices.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on drafting towers and powers during the March phase to assemble an army suited to each battlefield. Positioning matters because every layout presents distinct terrain and enemy compositions that reward careful placement over raw power. In the Pyrfall campaign, players face more than 100 lesser enemies, 32 elite variants, and 15 bosses, each with dedicated mechanics that alter standard tower defense patterns. Travel takes players across 32 subzones in eight zones, from bone-strewn Boneyards to Hushhive forests, where environmental details influence optimal tower setups.
Random encounters and branching storylines add layers beyond defense. Choices feed into the Lorebook, which tracks outcomes and unlocks new rewards on subsequent runs. Over 30 tower forms and recruits combine with 60 unique powers, 50 trinkets, and 30 consumables to support varied builds each playthrough. Battlefield variety exceeds 100 layouts, encouraging repeated study of enemy waves and terrain advantages.
Game Modes
Single-player campaigns form the primary mode at launch. Each of the six planned campaigns follows a three-act structure that emphasizes progression through drafted towers and powers. The initial Early Access release includes the complete Pyrfall campaign across its three acts. A second campaign, Torpun, is scheduled for addition during the Early Access period.
Co-op support is planned for implementation before the full release, allowing two players to share the campaign experience. Post-release expansions will deliver the remaining four campaigns at no extra cost to Early Access buyers. No other modes, such as arcade or versus formats, are confirmed for the initial launch window.
The Campaigns and World
Six regions define the campaign structure: Pyrfall, Torpun, Gorvell, Dunarra, Keinvood, and Secarra. Each region delivers its own three-act progression filled with unique enemies, elites, and bosses. The Pyrfall campaign alone spans 32 subzones and incorporates more than 30 story and random encounters that branch based on player decisions. The Lorebook records these paths, turning each run into an opportunity to explore alternate outcomes and collect additional rewards tied to the Haust world.
Story elements remain grounded in the Elder's journey rather than broad exposition. Branching paths and encounter results create replay incentives without requiring linear completion. The system supports new builds on every attempt while gradually revealing more of the setting through documented choices.
Is It Worth Playing?
Players interested in tower defense with roguelike drafting and narrative progression will find a focused experience in the Pyrfall campaign. The combination of 100-plus battlefield layouts, enemy variety, and build customization provides substantial replay value within a single campaign. Early Access status means the game launches with one finished three-act campaign and plans for additional content during the development window.
Those who prefer complete single-player campaigns with planned free expansions and eventual co-op may benefit from purchasing during Early Access. The absence of user reviews at launch reflects the pre-release state, so expectations should align with an evolving project that refines balance through community feedback. The core systems of tower drafting, positioning, and choice-driven progression stand as the verified foundation for evaluation.
