About Floatwood

Floatwood - about the game

Floatwood is an indie casual simulation game for PC centered on building a forestry business through logging and river transport. Players start with a patch of forest and use the river as the primary route to move timber to sawmills downstream. The experience blends hands-on management with gradual automation across forest operations, water transport, and sales.

Gameplay

The core loop begins with manual tasks such as clicking to fell trees, hooking logs from the water, splitting firewood, and pushing wheelbarrows to buyers. As progress continues, players hire lumberjacks who appear on the map and handle work independently. Every log is individually simulated, bobbing and drifting with the current while forming jams at narrow points or backed-up yards. These jams require breaking with a pike pole or assigning raftsmen on rafts to clear them.

Over fifty upgrade lines expand across the forest, river, wood yard, and player capabilities. Early tools like axes and wheelbarrows give way to harvesters, forwarders, horse carts, lorries, and barges. The sawmill develops into a larger industrial facility, and eventually a railway arrives to handle timber transport. The valley changes with seasons from spring floods to winter ice, and daily life includes elements like a lamplighter tending lanterns at dusk and a cook calling the crew for meals. Occasional wildlife such as a moose emerging from the trees adds to the setting.

Progression supports offline advancement while away from the game. The map populates with everything purchased, creating a growing operation that scales from one axe to extensive crews and infrastructure.

Game Modes

Floatwood focuses on a single-player progression experience that advances through a main campaign structure. Players work toward delivering a large volume of logs in the Great Spring Drive, which takes roughly six hours of playtime and unlocks the purchase of a timber monopoly. Completion opens access to the next river with retained medals and perks.

Four playstyle switches allow experimentation with different approaches on subsequent rivers. The game supports a shift from direct clicking in early stages to full automation later, with options to manage or delegate tasks across the simulated environment.

Progression and Features

Thousand of logs move through the river system at once, each reacting to currents and obstacles in real time. Upgrades cover dozens of lines that improve efficiency in harvesting, floating, processing, and transport. The system includes 51 upgrade lines in total along with 33 achievements and support for 20 interface languages.

Three rivers provide distinct stages for repeated playthroughs after the initial campaign ending. Everything purchased appears physically on the map, reinforcing the sense of a developing business from basic manual labor to industrialized operations.

Is It Worth Playing?

Floatwood suits players who enjoy incremental management simulations with a focus on resource flow and gradual expansion. The mix of early interactive clicking and later automation, combined with the detailed log physics and seasonal changes, creates a steady pace of growth and problem-solving around jams and transport. Those interested in forestry-themed casual experiences on PC will find the progression from small operations to large-scale delivery satisfying, especially with the option to continue across multiple rivers using different playstyles. The game runs on PC and includes offline progress support for flexible play sessions.
