VL85 – Twin-section AC freight locomotive for mountain railways
The VL85 is a powerful twin-section AC electric freight locomotive, specifically developed for hauling heavy trains on the challenging gradients of the Baikal–Amur Mainline. It was designed and manufactured by the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant between 1983 and 1994.
The first prototype units underwent testing in the Ukrainian SSR, where their traction performance, subsystem reliability, regenerative braking, and electronic control systems were thoroughly evaluated under demanding operating conditions.
Features of the ZDSimulator model:
Highly detailed exterior with accurate design elements
Animated driver's cab with functional control instruments
Fully operational control system
Authentic traction, braking, and auxiliary sounds
Working lights (headlights, beams, interior)
Support for regenerative braking and realistic physics
The VL85 is ideal for routes with steep profiles, long uphill sections, and heavy freight consists.
