Sniper Elite: The French Collection is a third-person tactical shooter set during World War II that combines two full campaigns into one package for PC players. It focuses on precise sniping, stealth approaches, and tactical decision-making across detailed French locations from 1944. The experience centers on elite marksmen working with the French Resistance to disrupt Nazi operations, including secret projects that could alter the course of the war.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around long-range ballistics, positioning, and patient observation. Players control characters who must account for wind, distance, and breathing when lining up shots with authentic World War II firearms. Cover systems and traversal mechanics allow movement across large, real-world-inspired maps in Brittany and occupied France, where exploration reveals objectives and enemy placements. The signature X-Ray Kill Cam provides detailed feedback on bullet trajectories and their effects on targets, emphasizing the consequences of each shot. Stealth remains central, with options for silent takedowns and avoidance of detection to maintain an advantage in hostile territory.
Progression involves managing resources, selecting loadouts suited to different mission demands, and adapting to changing enemy patrols. The improved movement options expand opportunities for flanking and repositioning without relying on direct confrontation. Both campaigns deliver self-contained stories that run in parallel, one following Karl Fairburne and another introducing Harry Hawker as he uncovers advanced enemy technology.
Game Modes
Single-player campaigns form the foundation, guiding players through narrative-driven missions with multiple objectives and branching approaches. Invasion Mode allows players to enter other users' campaigns as hostile forces, creating dynamic encounters that test defensive and offensive sniping skills. Online co-op supports teams of two to four players for coordinated mission completion, while online multiplayer accommodates groups of two to sixteen for competitive matches that reward positioning and timing over rapid action.
These modes integrate the same ballistic and stealth systems across different contexts, encouraging replay through varied strategies and objectives. Cross-platform support expands match availability for those seeking consistent opponents or allies.
Setting and Campaigns
The action unfolds in authentic French environments captured with attention to historical detail, from coastal fortifications to inland resistance networks. One storyline involves weakening Atlantikwall defenses and exposing Operation Kraken. The parallel narrative follows efforts to neutralize a powerful Wunderwaffe discovered deep in occupied territory. Authentic weaponry from the era anchors the combat, while the French Resistance serves as a key ally in both threads, providing context and support for infiltration and sabotage goals.
Is It Worth Playing?
This collection suits players who value methodical pacing and realistic shooting mechanics in a World War II context. Those drawn to stealth-focused third-person shooters with strong emphasis on precision and environmental awareness will find substantial content here, while those preferring faster-paced action may prefer other genres. The bundle structure provides immediate access to the full set of verified features without additional purchases for the core experiences.
