The Avatar has finally learned to throw hands, and today is the day. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is out right now on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and Switch 2, and after years of fans begging for a proper Last Airbender brawler, it is actually here.
We have been keeping an eye on this one, and the pitch is simple. Hand-drawn 2D fighters, a roster pulled straight from both The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, and a story mode that Avatar co-creator Michael Dante DiMartino had a hand in. If you grew up quoting Uncle Iroh, this is aimed right at you.
Who you can play at launch
The base roster lands with twelve fighters. You get the obvious picks, Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph and Sokka, plus heavy hitters like Azula, Zaheer, Fire Lord Ozai and Kyoshi. Rounding it out are Avatar State versions of Aang and Korra, because of course the full-power glowing-eyes mode gets its own slot. Every character bends their own element, so matchups feel genuinely different instead of being reskins.
Developer Gameplay Group built it on rollback netcode with crossplay across every platform, which is exactly what you want from a new fighter in 2026. Nothing kills a launch faster than laggy online, so fingers crossed it holds up under the day-one crowd.
Deluxe Edition and Year 1
The standard edition runs $29.99, refreshingly not the usual $70 for a modern release. There is also a Digital Deluxe Edition that bundles a Year 1 Pass, an art book, the soundtrack and a few extra HUDs. That pass adds five more fighters over the first season. Bolin, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Uncle Iroh are already locked in, and the fifth slot gets decided by a community vote. Yes, you can campaign for your favorite. Start rallying now.

It is not a huge-budget Tekken killer and it never pretends to be, but as a love letter to one of the best animated worlds around, it has a real shot. We will be putting the roster through its paces this week.
