Combat occurs through broadside exchanges where players fire from port or starboard sides, cycle positions, and select ammunition types including chain shot and grape shot. Additional skills allow for specialized attacks such as mortar bursts, double broadsides, rigging-disrupting volleys, or defensive bracing with repairs. When an enemy ship drops below a third of its hull integrity, boarding becomes possible to seize cargo and gold or claim the vessel for a personal prize fleet that generates ongoing dividends.
