About Uncounted Isles

Uncounted Isles - about the game
Step into the boots of a novice adventurer in the Uncounted Isles, tackling humble tasks overlooked by seasoned legends. Start with chasing rats, then progress to outsmarting bandits and battling undead, as each quest builds skills and reveals hidden plots. Tailor your path through trading with villagers, looting items, and crafting loadouts for magic mastery or sword combat. This voxel-based first-person fantasy roguelite RPG features a custom progression system and mystical death crystal for retaining progress after setbacks. Explore handcrafted islands in a living world with strategic economy and intense combat. Solo developers craft small victories into grander journeys, drawing in players who savor flexible roleplaying and persistent adventure on PC.

An Archipelago of Secrets

You left everything behind for this. A mediocre life in a mediocre town, traded for the promise of fortune at the edge of the known world. The Uncounted Isles stretch beyond the horizon. A vast archipelago where the maps run out and the stories begin.

The outer islands are settled. Villages dot the coastlines and trade towns bustle with merchants, adventurers and folk trying to build something new on the frontier. But venture deeper and the people thin out. The cities vanish. Ancient forests grow so thick the canopy swallows the sky. Lost civilizations sleep beneath the undergrowth, their ruins half-buried and waiting to be found.

Your first days are simple enough. A farmer needs rats killed. A widow is looking for her husband's lost necklace. Easy work. Easy coin.

But the coin buys whispers. Hooded figures in black and red robes are pushing past the settled islands, deeper into the wilds where no one follows. Villages burn in their wake. The dead are walking where they shouldn't be. And the survivors talk of dreams. Always the same. A dark tower rising from somewhere deep in the archipelago. No one sleeps well after the robed ones pass through.

The Adventurers' Guild is paying a fortune for answers that nobody has. You're one of the few adventurers foolish enough to chase them. What can some strangers in robes do against you anyway?

Shaped by Sacrifice

There are no classes in the Uncounted Isles. Every advantage demands a price through the Gift and Scar system. Become a devastating swordsman but feel your magic wither. Master the arcane but know that a single blade could end you.

Your decisions and the horrors you witness carve Scars that change how you fight and who you become. Put points into Might to break down doors and shrug off what should kill you. Invest in Grace to sneak past threats and dodge what you can't block. Sharpen your Wits to master magic, pick locks and patch yourself up when no one else will. Or lean into Spirit to talk your way out of a fight, barter for what you need and hold your nerve when the dark closes in. One hard choice at a time.

Steel, Sorcery and Survival

Every fight starts with a choice: what do your hands hold? A sword in each fist for when things get close. An axe and a staff to split skulls between fireballs. Or a bow that demands both hands but keeps you alive from a distance. Ice spikes and lightning for those who'd rather let magic do the talking. Choose what fits the fight.

Armor your head, body and legs. Sling a cape across your back or strap on a pack when you need more room for loot. Ancient artifacts worn at your neck grant powers you barely understand.

When death comes knocking, a Last Stand mechanic gives you one final shot. But fall for good and your gear stays where you dropped it. You want it back? Go find it. Between the fighting you can hunt wildlife or search for lost tressures to sell for good coin.

From Frontier Towns to Forgotten Ruins

The journey starts in bustling settlements where you can trade, take on quests and hire companions. Push beyond the frontier and the archipelago reveals what it's been hiding. Overgrown temples. Collapsed fortresses reclaimed by the forest. Caverns that haven't seen light in centuries. The deeper you go the fewer friendly faces you'll find and the more dangerous the answers become.

Quests branch and interlock. Paths close behind you that you'll never see again. The people you help and the ones you betray all remember. Multiple endings await. Each earned by the trail of decisions you've left behind.

Companions and Conspiracies

Hire swords to watch your back. Or earn their loyalty and call them friends. You'll need them. The settled islands offer safety in numbers but past the frontier it's just you, your companions and whatever is waiting in the dark of night.

The Guild sent others. None came back with answers. The cultists in their golden masks are pushing deeper into the archipelago and the dead are rising in their wake. Whatever they're looking for, they're getting close. A branching main questline pulls you into necromancy, betrayal and choices that don't let you walk away clean.

Survive the Winter

In the late game, help an Exploration Outpost endure a brutal winter through settlement mechanics. Gather resources, fortify defenses and turn a fragile camp into a true foothold against the dark. Or watch it crumble because you trusted the wrong people.

Bright World. Dark Roots.

Nobody prays here. The gods stopped answering a long time ago. Six centuries back, dragons ruled everything until a band of heroes put an end to them. The faun-like Dox built what came after, but they buried the old stories deep. Humans exist but they're rare out here. Most are busy fighting wars and scheming on their own continents. No one takes the title of king. That name belonged to the dragons and some fears outlast the thing that caused them. Discover a world full of lore, lost history and secrets that the Dox would rather you never found.

The Uncounted Isles are rendered in a detailed voxel art style. All color and character. The bright and inviting palette hides a world with teeth. Storms roll in without warning, skies shift from golden dawn to pitch-black night and the islands feel different depending on when you visit them.

Built by One. Shaped by You.

Uncounted Isles is a solo-developed passion project built from the ground up on a custom engine. Every island, every quest and every item was built from scratch. The Uncounted Isles are growing and your support helps decide how far they stretch. Wishlist if this sounds like your kind of adventure. Follow along if you want to watch it take shape. Either way, thanks for being here. The archipelago is waiting.
