About Table Night

Table Night - about the game

Table Night is a strategy, indie, RPG, casual, and simulation game for PC that blends board game mechanics with creative freedom. Up to eight players gather around a digital tabletop where actions unfold through dice rolls and narrative choices. The experience centers on writing custom actions, resolving them with a d20, and watching the results play out as the board expands in response to the story.

Gameplay

Each round begins with players selecting an action such as moving across tiles, attacking opponents, using items, or opening doors. The ACT button allows freeform input where participants describe anything they wish to attempt. A game master determines the difficulty, after which the dice decide success or failure. Outcomes appear as stamps reading DISASTER, FAILS, AT A COST, WORKS, or CRITICAL. A natural 20 triggers special board changes that validate the attempted action with unexpected elements.

The board starts from a short story that generates an initial map. Tiles rise from the tabletop, a sky dome displays time and weather, and new areas unfold as the narrative progresses. Environmental interactions include fire spreading tile to tile, water extinguishing flames, flooding rooms, collapsing floors, and lightning strikes. Visibility mechanics change when lights go out, leaving only movement rings visible. Players can break walls, use dumpsters as cover, or command cars that travel until fuel runs out. Physics dice can be thrown manually with unlockable skins, and pieces move in the order dice land on screen.

Game Modes

Matches progress through worsening event phases until a finale. Available modes include Last one standing, Until everyone falls, Survive the rounds, and Record when you're alone. At the conclusion the map retracts, a graveyard displays tombstones with cause of death details, and points carry forward to future sessions.

The game supports flexible game master setups. A human friend can judge actions and control tools for spawning creatures or triggering disasters. The game itself handles judging without external input. An LLM option lets the host connect an account from providers such as Groq, Google AI Studio, OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Anthropic. The model narrates turns and evaluates written actions while the core rules engine manages dice, damage, and deaths. Content filters keep output suitable for teens by crossing out restricted text.

Customization and Features

In the Collection section players create custom cards for starting stories, events, twists, luck, mishaps, and rooms. Effects can be chosen from existing options or left to the game to resolve. Maps build in 3D and cards share via codes. The lobby lets the host select the story, mode, friendly fire rules, writing time limits, and active card decks.

Support reaches one to eight players through online play, LAN, direct IP, or solo offline sessions. More than a dozen starting stories and over a hundred cards are included. Five table shapes accommodate different group sizes. Name colors and fonts personalize pieces, while text chat displays speech bubbles above characters. Controls work with mouse, keyboard, or controller, and the interface supports English and Spanish.

Is It Worth Playing?

Table Night suits groups seeking a flexible party experience that mixes strategy, simulation, and role-playing elements. The combination of written actions and dice resolution creates unpredictable turns that reward creativity within structured rules. Solo play works through the built-in game master, while larger groups benefit from the human or LLM options for deeper narration. With support for up to eight participants and carry-over scoring across matches, the game encourages repeated sessions. Players who enjoy board games with strong narrative freedom and environmental interaction will find the core loop engaging, especially when experimenting with custom cards and varied game master styles. The indie nature keeps the focus on core mechanics rather than extensive content updates.
