About Stolen Frequencies

Stolen Frequencies - about the game

Stolen Frequencies is a single-player strategy, indie, simulation and adventure game set in 1980s England. Players take on the role of a radio repair technician who builds an underground broadcast station while managing repairs, local businesses and a growing music collection.

Gameplay

The core loop combines hands-on radio repairs with station management and exploration. At Holloway Repairs, players open radios on the workbench, inspect components, complete fixes and test each set to earn pay. This income funds a discarded broadcast kit that starts small with limited signal reach and two cassettes.

Players carry and install the kit across eight towns, upgrade the aerial and queue up to six tapes for each programme. Local tastes influence listener response, so matching requests and shaping playlists keeps the audience engaged. Cash from repairs and deliveries can also be invested in 16 local businesses, where stock, prices, staff and upgrades require direct oversight.

Music collection grows through exploration. Players meet contacts, buy or earn new cassettes and record live performances in six gig rooms while avoiding detection by stewards. Over 55 unique songs across 1980s-inspired genres become available to play at home or broadcast. The signal itself draws both listeners and police attention, forcing decisions about when to go off air or relocate equipment to avoid repeated cautions that end a run.

Game Modes

The main experience follows 80 story missions that guide progression through repairs, broadcasting and business growth. After key milestones, players continue with ongoing work in the same systems.

Three focused challenges provide alternative goals. Three-Day Broadcast emphasises short-term signal management and listener retention. Tycoon Week centres on business expansion and financial decisions. Opening Night shifts focus to venue renovation and running Platform Afterhours, where players select from earned songs, host guests and watch for illicit recordings.

Building a Station and Audience

Station development requires balancing equipment upgrades with programme planning. Players learn neighbourhood preferences through listener feedback and adjust broadcasts accordingly. Support from satisfied listeners provides resources that help sustain operations against occasional police scrutiny.

Renovation work opens Platform Afterhours as a personal venue. Here the player programmes the night using collected tracks, welcomes attendees and maintains order. This flips the perspective from broadcaster to host while still tying into the same music and business systems.

Is It Worth Playing?

Stolen Frequencies suits players who enjoy deliberate management simulations with creative elements. The combination of radio repairs, business oversight, cassette hunting and broadcast decisions creates a steady rhythm of short tasks and longer planning. Those drawn to 1980s aesthetics, music curation and single-player progression without competitive pressure will find the systems rewarding. The separate challenges offer replay value for focused sessions after the story missions conclude. Availability on PC with mouse and keyboard controls keeps the experience straightforward for the intended audience.
