About Starjaunt

Starjaunt - about the game

Starjaunt is a single-player action, strategy, indie, RPG, simulation, and adventure game for PC that places players in a living galaxy of forty-four star systems. The experience begins with a basic shuttle and a modest cargo hold, then expands through player choices that shape trade routes, faction relations, and the ongoing war between nine distinct groups.

Gameplay

Core gameplay centers on managing a ship and its crew while navigating systems where control shifts based on mission outcomes. Players start small and can focus on trading goods across supply lines strained by conflict, extracting resources from asteroid fields, or pursuing contracts that range from simple deliveries to complex intelligence operations. Combat occurs in space with ships from a roster of fifty-four hulls and forty-three weapons and outfits, many unlocked only after completing faction-specific missions. Pilots controlled by reinforcement learning exhibit varied behaviors, such as breaking off damaged fights or committing to aggressive maneuvers, creating encounters that feel reactive rather than scripted.

Systems change dynamically. Capturing territory for one side alters local markets, patrol presence, and available contracts without fixed events. On-foot sections let players walk through settlements on every landed world to handle fuel, repairs, sales, and information gathering at bars or warehouses. Companions earned through storylines fly alongside in their own vessels, provide dialogue during fights, and accompany the player on the ground, each with personal arcs that can end permanently if they fall in combat.

Game Modes

Starjaunt supports multiple approaches within its single-player structure. Merchant play involves buying low and selling high while monitoring war-driven price fluctuations. Mining focuses on asteroid belts and refinery sales without direct involvement in politics. Bounty hunting follows a six-part story arc with increasing complexity. Espionage consists of thirteen missions that include evidence planting, staged extractions, and ledger entries for bribes. Combat piloting covers contract work and system captures under a chosen flag. Fleet command grows from solo flights to leading hired guns or earned berths on faction carriers after building trust.

Six full faction campaigns provide structured paths that intersect at shared battles viewed from opposing sides. These arcs unlock unique ships and equipment while advancing the broader conflict. The war itself functions as an ongoing system rather than a set sequence, with contested zones spawning forces from multiple sides that resolve encounters independently of the player.

Factions and the Living Galaxy

Nine factions operate with independent goals and ship designs. The Federation emphasizes armored vessels and structured logistics. The Rebel Alliance relies on speed and captured technology. The Free Frontier defends its independence through defensive tactics and remembers past aid. The Helios Combine profits from arms sales to all sides using drone swarms. The Artifact Order protects precursor sites with zealous ramming attacks. The Federation Bastion pursues total victory through siege tactics. Pirates, the Merchant Guild, and independent worlds fill out the roster with their own interests and vessels.

Each faction maintains its own mission line that grants progressive access to hulls and systems. Control of individual star systems registers as a live value that missions can shift, causing markets to restock from new suppliers, patrols to change, and contract availability to update accordingly. Seven regions span core worlds, borderlands, frontier areas, corporate holdings, fortified zones, monastic routes, and an unstable deep fringe.

Is It Worth Playing?

Starjaunt suits players who enjoy open-ended space simulation combined with RPG progression and strategic decision making. The blend of trading, combat, exploration on foot, and faction-driven campaigns offers substantial depth for those interested in emergent stories rather than linear plots. Keyboard controls handle all actions at launch across Windows, macOS, and Linux. The dynamic war system and reactive AI pilots provide replay value through different faction paths and playstyles. Those seeking a structured campaign with permanent companion consequences and multiple endings will find the mechanics align closely with that preference. The game delivers a self-contained experience without reliance on external updates or seasons.
