About Stackade

Stackade - about the game

Stackade is a tower defense strategy game that blends falling block placement with defensive building on PC. Players construct layouts around a central headquarters using pieces that drop sequentially, positioning towers and barriers to control enemy paths while maximizing damage output.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around managing incoming blocks that arrive in a side column. Each piece lands in a fixed drop zone, and players drag it onto the grid surrounding the headquarters. Certain blocks arrive pre-equipped with defensive structures such as rifles, miniguns, or flamethrowers, while others serve purely as solid barriers that enemies cannot pass through. This dual purpose forces careful decisions: towers must occupy positions that cover high-traffic routes, and plain blocks must channel foes into prolonged exposure to fire.

Enemy variety adds depth to every placement choice. Some units navigate around walls using the shortest available route, others ignore barriers entirely to charge the headquarters directly, and still more hang back to target towers from range or explode on contact with blocks. A subset of enemies focuses on disrupting the board layout rather than direct combat. Because each type behaves differently, a configuration effective against one wave often requires adjustment for the next. The system rewards foresight in path length and tower coverage, turning every block into both an obstacle and an opportunity for sustained damage.

Game Modes

Campaign mode consists of four short levels designed to introduce the core mechanics of block placement, tower positioning, and enemy pathing. These introductory stages teach players how barriers shape movement and how tower placement influences survival without overwhelming complexity.

Infinity mode serves as the primary experience. It continues indefinitely, with new enemy types appearing at regular intervals and bosses arriving shortly afterward. The run ends only when the headquarters is destroyed, encouraging repeated attempts to refine layouts and adapt to escalating threats. This endless format highlights the game's emphasis on long-term planning and reactive adjustments across multiple waves.

Progression and Customization

After each level, players receive payment that funds purchases in the shop. Available upgrades include additional tower types, buff cards that modify performance, grid expansions, and new block shapes. Resources remain limited, so choices carry weight across an entire run. Acquiring a tower increases its future appearance rate in dropped pieces, gradually shaping the board around preferred defenses.

Two dedicated systems extend customization further. The Workshop allows upgrades to existing towers, improving their capabilities over time. The Shape Forge permits players to design custom block pieces, adding personal touches to the available set. A rewind option provides a safety net for suboptimal drops, preserving momentum during challenging sequences.

Is It Worth Playing?

Stackade suits players who enjoy deliberate, single-player strategy games that combine puzzle-like placement with defensive planning. The indie title offers 15 distinct towers, Steam achievements, support for 11 languages, and full offline functionality, making it accessible for focused sessions without external dependencies. Its casual accessibility pairs with strategic depth through enemy variety and resource management, appealing to those who appreciate iterative improvement across short campaign runs or extended Infinity attempts. The upcoming release on November 19, 2026, positions it as a fresh entry for fans of tower defense mechanics that emphasize board control and adaptive building rather than traditional fixed-position setups.
