About Slay the Tire

Slay the Tire - about the game

Slay the Tire is a single-player roguelike deckbuilder set in a strategy indie experience on PC. Players take on the role of a rider in a cinematic 3D motorcycle chase across highways that serve as the main battleground. The core loop involves selecting a rider, constructing a deck of cards, and engaging in turn-based combat against vehicles and creatures while navigating routes through varied American landscapes.

Gameplay

Combat unfolds in turn-based sequences where riders read enemy intentions before selecting cards to execute attacks, defenses, or special maneuvers. The action plays out as a moving chase, with a cinematic camera capturing crashes, close calls, and strikes amid shifting weather and light conditions such as desert sunsets, dust storms, bayou nights, coastal rain, and neon-lit streets. Deck building draws from more than 300 cards and 150 gas cans that function as road relics, including items like oil, nitro, and spare keys. Players upgrade cards, discover combinations suited to their chosen rider, and balance risks against rewards during encounters. Exploration involves charting routes, stopping at gas stations for supplies, resting at motels for upgrades, and weighing the value of roadside detours that introduce new events or hazards.

Four distinct riders provide different combat approaches. Hank "Morningstar" Maddox rides a heavy chopper and uses a spiked flail on a long chain to deliver heavy hits and convert fire and punishment into advantages. Vex Reyes favors a sportbike equipped with knives and spikes, emphasizing speed to leave trouble behind. Marisol "Sparks" Vega operates a cafe racer loaded with improvised machinery such as coils, coolant tanks, flamethrowers, and nitro, rewarding players who build mechanical combinations. Walt Boone hunts bounties alongside his blue heeler, Biscuit, in a sidecar, coordinating attacks with his dog to take down targets.

Game Modes

The game supports only single-player runs. Each session follows a roguelike structure where progress saves automatically between encounters, allowing players to pause and resume later. Runs emphasize deck construction and route selection without branching into separate competitive or cooperative formats.

Routes and Encounters

Eight alternate routes deliver unique scenery, enemies, events, and bosses. Options include Monument Valley, the Louisiana bayou, Route 66 across the Mojave, the Extraterrestrial Highway, the California coast, Los Angeles at night, the Pacific Coast Highway, and the Gold Country with its large trees. Opponents range from outlaw bikers and semis to alligators, monster trucks, a parade dragon, and a mothership, each tied to specific roadside characters, hazards, and strange encounters. More than 130 roadside events further shape each run through varied interactions and choices.

Is It Worth Playing?

Slay the Tire suits players who enjoy strategic turn-based combat combined with roguelike deck building and a distinctive motorcycle chase presentation. The four riders offer meaningful mechanical differences, while the eight routes provide replayability through distinct enemies and events. Controls support both mouse and keyboard or an Xbox-compatible controller, and the autosave system fits sessions of varying lengths. Those drawn to indie strategy games focused on careful card play and route decisions will find a focused experience here, though the single-player format limits options for those seeking multiplayer elements.
