About ROMUL

ROMUL - about the game

ROMUL is a co-op looting horror game set on abandoned space stations. Players take on roles in a three-person squad and work together to complete objectives while managing threats from unstable environments and hostile creatures. The game combines action and adventure elements with procedural station layouts that change each run.

Gameplay

Three character classes provide distinct tools for squad composition. The Medic focuses on healing and support, the Soldier emphasizes combat effectiveness, and the Engineer handles technical tasks and equipment manipulation. Squads decide whether to specialize or mix roles for each mission.

An assistant robot accompanies the team and responds to voice commands. It carries storage capacity and assists with tasks in hazardous areas. Early-stage AI limits its capabilities, requiring players to issue clear instructions for it to follow.

Gravity mechanics vary across stations due to damaged anti-gravity cores. Sections may feature zero gravity, inverted surfaces, or wall walking. A Zero-G tool fires anti-gravity spheres to lift objects, creatures, or teammates and secure them with cables for creative problem solving.

Procedural generation assembles each station from modular rooms. Many rooms include interactive hazards such as laser grids or trash ejection compartments. No maps are provided, so exploration relies on observation and communication.

Valuables scattered throughout stations can be collected and sold at base. Proceeds unlock new stations and upgrade access to weapons, medkits, and other equipment. Monsters range from bio-robots to animated organic threats that require use of cover, gravity effects, and weapons to survive.

Game Modes

The core experience centers on cooperative play with friends. Voice chat and optional webcam integration support real-time coordination. Players can customize avatars with personal images or use live webcam feeds in place of default visuals.

Radio communication and custom music uploads for the lobby add personalization. The assistant robot integrates into sessions through voice control and its own responses, enhancing the cooperative loop without replacing player interaction.

Key Mechanics and Features

Stations present a mix of destroyed sectors, trap rooms, and monster encounters. Interactive items throughout the environment allow improvisation during objectives. The combination of looting, survival, and gravity manipulation creates varied approaches to each procedurally generated layout.

Equipment and upgrades purchased between runs improve squad capabilities for tougher stations. Balancing class selection with the robot's assistance encourages repeated play to test different strategies.

Is It Worth Playing?

ROMUL suits players who enjoy cooperative survival and exploration in a sci-fi setting with unusual physics. The emphasis on voice communication, class variety, and procedural variety rewards coordinated teams willing to adapt to changing gravity and threats. Those seeking single-player experiences or highly structured campaigns may find the focus on open-ended co-op less appealing. The game remains available on PC for those interested in its unique mechanics.
