About Neon Frontline

Neon Frontline - about the game

Neon Frontline is a single-player strategy roguelike deckbuilder set on PC. Players lead a combat squad through the ruins of a collapsed civilization, managing tactical battles across three simultaneous battlefields while building and refining a deck of unit and command cards.

Gameplay

Battles unfold across left, center, and right battlefields. At the end of each turn, power totals are compared separately on each one, and winning a battlefield delivers a strike against the enemy. Limited deployment slots require careful positioning, as every unit must justify its place. Players deploy units, issue commands, adjust power levels, and generate Barrier to hold positions without depleting future resources.

Enemies introduce variable rules that can turn stable positions into hazards. A single misstep in deployment can unravel a carefully laid plan across all three fronts. Between fights, new unit and command cards are acquired and integrated. Relics alter combat or exploration rules, while modifications permanently adjust a card's cost, power, or abilities for the remainder of a run. These changes create layered builds where one strong choice with a drawback may reshape the entire expedition.

Progression moves through branching routes across three acts. Regular enemies, elite encounters, hidden events, shops, chests, and campfires offer opportunities to manage health, gold, and the deck. Campfires allow rest, card modifications, and duplication. Each act ends with a boss encounter that tests the accumulated squad and deck.

Game Modes

The game operates entirely in single-player mode. Runs consist of selecting one of several squads, each with distinct starting attributes, a relic, and an initial deck. The Command Squad focuses on a steady frontline presence. The Allied Squad emphasizes individual unit strengths. The Tactical Squad centers on deliberate discards and deck cycling for fresh options.

Every run follows the same structure of advancing through unstable zones, engaging in turn-based card battles on three battlefields, and making route choices that affect available encounters. No separate multiplayer or cooperative modes exist. The core loop remains consistent across all playthroughs, with variation arising from squad selection, card acquisitions, relic effects, and modification decisions.

Core Mechanics and Progression

Resource management extends beyond the deck itself. Health, gold, and card slots must be balanced while navigating events and shops that can provide supplies or new options. Barrier generation serves as a defensive tool that interacts with battlefield control. Card interactions grow more complex as modifications stack and relics reshape how units and commands function.

Exploration decisions carry weight. Choosing a path with more elites might yield stronger rewards but increase risk. Shops and chests provide targeted upgrades, while events introduce unexpected variables. The three-act structure escalates difficulty, culminating in boss fights that demand optimized power distribution across all battlefields.

Is It Worth Playing?

Neon Frontline suits players who enjoy roguelike deckbuilders with layered tactical decisions rather than straightforward combat. The three-battlefield system adds spatial and timing considerations uncommon in similar titles, forcing constant evaluation of deployment priorities and resource timing. Squad variety provides distinct starting strategies that influence how runs develop.

The game is scheduled for release in Q4 2026 and currently has no user reviews available. Those drawn to single-player experiences centered on deck refinement, relic synergies, and multi-front tactical planning may find the mechanics engaging. Individuals seeking multiplayer options or faster-paced action will encounter a different focus here. Availability on PC allows access once the title launches, with system requirements that support a range of hardware configurations.
