GeoPinQuest is a casual geography game for PC built around a realistic 3D globe. Players rotate and zoom the sphere to place pins on countries, cities, and flags while comparing population figures in chained rounds.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on spinning the globe with momentum-based controls. Drag to yaw and pitch the view, right-drag to roll, scroll or pinch to zoom, and tap a compass button to reset north. Every round presents a target on a card, and the player must locate it on the sphere. Misses generate a visible red dashed arc showing the great-circle distance between the chosen pin and the correct spot. Scoring uses real centroid-to-centroid calculations for countries and flags, awarding up to 1,000 points based on proximity. City rounds scale the system to a 10,000-point maximum inside a 10-kilometer bullseye, with linear deductions for greater error. All distances follow spherical geometry without planar shortcuts, even near the poles or across the antimeridian.
The game ships with complete data sets. A GeoJSON layer covers 251 countries with accurate borders, centroids, and continent assignments. City mode draws from roughly half a million real localities stored locally, so no downloads occur at launch. Filters let players restrict targets to specific continents or, in city modes, to individual countries for focused practice.
Game Modes
Five distinct game types expand into twenty total variants through four pacing options. Country mode requires tapping the matching country for a displayed name. City mode demands rotating and zooming until a red bullseye aligns over the target before pinning. Flag mode shows only an emoji and asks for the corresponding country. Higher or Lower Country presents two nations and requires guessing whether the second has a larger or smaller population than the first, with each answer becoming the baseline for the next round. Higher or Lower City applies the same chain mechanic to urban populations.
Each type supports Classic runs of ten rounds, Endless sessions without a round limit, and Timed variants at 60, 30, 10, or 5 seconds per round. Endless Timed combines unlimited rounds with a clock. Every variant includes continent or country filters to tailor difficulty or study a chosen region.
Progression and Scoring
Distance-based results feed into tiered achievements. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond thresholds apply per mode, alongside endless-streak trophies and a Near Misses category for close attempts. Career milestones track cumulative points at 100,000 and 1,000,000. A lifetime collection system records every correctly identified country across all sessions, with progress bars at 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent of the full 251. Per-mode scoreboards display ranked runs with timestamps across six tabs.
Is It Worth Playing?
GeoPinQuest suits anyone who wants to strengthen geography knowledge through repeated, measurable practice. The visible arcs and exact distance scoring turn errors into immediate lessons, while population chains add a light strategic layer. Singleplayer focus and local data mean the experience stays consistent without external dependencies. Players seeking quick sessions can use short timed modes, while those preferring depth can run endless filtered drills on specific continents. The combination of precise mechanics, extensive real-world data, and varied pacing makes the game a strong choice for dedicated geography learners on PC.
