Fight Fire with Friends is a co-op focused action, indie, RPG, casual and simulation game set on PC. Players work together to battle advancing bushfires threatening a town, using a single truck and limited tools across a night of coordinated effort.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on managing an active fire front that behaves like a real wildfire. A cellular automaton simulation powers over ninety-six thousand cells, allowing the blaze to spread realistically. Fire runs uphill faster, with the rate of spread doubling for every ten degrees of slope. Wind changes shift the entire front, grass burns out quickly while houses hold fire longer, and gas cylinders hiss before exploding. Players receive one warning before a critical event.
Teams handle multiple tasks in sequence. They extinguish flames with a hose, evacuate residents by banging on doors and guiding them to a muster point, and move livestock that offers no assistance. Where direct extinguishing fails, players cut fire breaks using a chainsaw and rake-hoe. Controlled burns with a drip torch create safe zones, since already-burned ground cannot ignite again. A waterbomber can be called in as a last resort when the front is too close.
One truck serves the entire crew of up to four players. Equipment includes a hose and two tools assigned before departure. Cards track individual progress and remain visible to the group. Some cards tie directly to the truck and are lost if it burns. Losing the vehicle leaves players on foot with ninety seconds before relief arrives. A panic beacon helps locate and drag downed teammates to safety. The entire crew down ends the run in every mode.
Game Modes
Two primary modes define the experience. Timed Shift lasts thirteen minutes and challenges players to contain as much of the fire as possible before dawn. Endless mode continues until the fire overwhelms the team. Both run on procedurally generated maps drawn from several templates, including The Town, River flats, the Lookout and the long paddock. Each session presents fresh terrain while maintaining the same core systems.
Online co-op supports one to four players. Roles emerge naturally from the limited equipment and shared truck. Everyone sees the cards earned during the shift, encouraging coordination around who carries which tool and when to light controlled burns or call for air support.
Visual and Audio Style
The presentation deliberately evokes 1997-era graphics. Resolution sits at 320x240 with vertex snapping, affine texture warping and dithering. All textures generate procedurally at boot, and every sound synthesizes on the fly. This approach keeps the focus on the fire simulation and cooperative decisions rather than high-fidelity visuals.
Is It Worth Playing?
Fight Fire with Friends suits players who enjoy realistic simulation mechanics paired with tight co-op teamwork. The fire behavior and limited resources create constant tension, while the short timed shifts and endless option provide clear session lengths. Those who like managing multiple objectives under pressure, such as evacuation alongside fire containment, will find the systems rewarding. The retro technical style adds a distinct personality without distracting from the core challenge. Availability is limited to PC, and the game stands alone without reliance on prior titles or ongoing seasonal content.
