About Dungeons & Death

Dungeons & Death - about the game

Dungeons & Death is an action roguelite RPG for PC that blends dungeon crawling with asymmetric multiplayer. Players explore branching dungeon paths filled with fights, events and bosses, either solo or in groups, while one participant can oppose the others as a Director who controls threats and can join the fray directly.

Gameplay

Expeditions begin with a choice of four classes that shape combat and progression. The armored Warrior focuses on heavy defense and close range power. The arcane Wizard relies on spells and ranged effects. The agile Rogue emphasizes speed and precision strikes. The relentless Monk delivers fast chains and mobility. Combat mixes light attacks, running strikes, charged heavy blows, blocks, parries, grapples and environmental launches. Skill trees unlock as depth increases, letting players layer status effects with precise timing for combo and super combo results.

Outside expeditions the tavern serves as a hub for equipment management, contract handling and roster oversight. Discoveries and victories carry forward while fallen characters enter the Hall of the Fallen, removing them from future runs and forcing new selections from the persistent roster. This structure creates a loop of preparation, descent and consequence that rewards careful planning and adaptation to shifting objectives, elites and treasure placements.

Game Modes

Core play supports single player runs or cooperative expeditions with up to four adventurers. A fifth participant can assume the Director role, using a limited budget to deploy reinforcements, traps, possessions, events and bargains. The Director advances through Tyrant, Trickster or Tempter branches that alter encounter design. At key moments the Director can manifest as the Black Knight, a fully equipped rival who fights the party directly. Survival through the final confrontation can lead to another Black Knight encounter if the human Director persists.

These options create distinct experiences within the same dungeon framework. Cooperative groups focus on coordinated class synergies and path choices, while Director sessions introduce direct opposition and adaptive challenge scaling. All runs feature procedural elements that change routes, events and bosses between attempts.

Progression and Consequences

Each descent builds a class skill tree that persists only for that run, encouraging experimentation with different ability combinations. Status effects and timing mechanics open layered interactions that reward observation and adaptation. Back at the tavern, contracts and discoveries feed into long term roster management, turning individual expeditions into part of a larger campaign narrative shaped by losses and successes.

Permadeath mechanics ensure that every hero carries risk. The Hall of the Fallen records each death, and surviving adventurers must proceed without lost teammates, altering team composition for subsequent attempts. This system emphasizes resourcefulness and the value of each expedition's outcome.

Is It Worth Playing?

Dungeons & Death targets players who enjoy roguelite structure combined with asymmetric multiplayer and class based action combat. The Director mode adds a layer of direct competition that distinguishes it from standard co op dungeon crawlers, appealing to groups seeking varied session dynamics. Single player runs deliver the same core loop of branching paths and combo focused combat without requiring additional participants.

The game remains in development with a planned 2026 release and currently shows no user reviews. Those drawn to persistent roster management, environmental combat interactions and the tension of potential permanent losses will find the verified systems align with those preferences. Availability on PC through Steam wishlist tracking allows monitoring for launch details.
