About Dirtnap

Dirtnap - about the game

Dirtnap is a multiplayer arena shooter for PC that centers on fast-paced combat across maps where every pixel of terrain can be dug, blasted, or burned away. Players control one of seven unique Dirtlings, each equipped with a jetpack for flight, mouse-aimed shooting in one hand, and digging tools in the other. Matches support two to ten participants through online lobbies, local area network connections, or combinations with AI bots.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around movement, destruction, and direct confrontation in procedurally generated arenas. A jetpack enables three-dimensional navigation while the mouse handles precise aiming. One hand fires weapons while the other excavates dirt or interacts with the environment. Seven Dirtlings provide distinct playstyles through their abilities and stats. The Chameleon turns invisible when stationary. The Platypus swims rapidly and survives underwater longer than others. The Ant scales walls and ceilings. The Bear tunnels through otherwise indestructible rock. The Mole places automated turrets. The Spider deploys webs for grappling or slowing foes. The Viper achieves greater range and damage with shots.

Four biomes shape each map with specific hazards and visuals. Dunes feature classic dirt caves alongside water and lava pools. Permafrost includes slippery ice surfaces, falling snow, and frozen pools that break into powder. Mudlands present dry badlands with sinking mud pools. Volcano biomes consist of dark basalt rock and widespread lava. The world reacts dynamically to player actions and natural processes. Liquids follow fluid simulation rules. Water and lava interact to form stone or produce steam. Fire propagates across grass and vines. Stalactites detach and fall to crush targets below. Snow accumulates, drifts, melts, and extinguishes flames on Dirtlings.

Weapon variety spans machine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, gauss rifles, flamethrowers, bazookas, missiles, grenades, and additional options. Thirty or more weapons appear in the arsenal. Full gamepad support extends accessibility across input methods.

Game Modes

Four primary modes structure matches. Deathmatch awards victory to the first player reaching a set kill count. Team Deathmatch pits red against blue teams in similar scoring. Battle Royale removes respawns and introduces rising lava that shrinks the playable area. Capture the Flag requires stealing the opposing team's flag and returning it to score points. Any mode supports tournament format where participants upgrade abilities between rounds.

Lobbies accommodate open, password-protected, or closed settings. Bots fill empty slots to maintain match balance regardless of human player count.

Multiplayer and Accessibility

Dirtnap emphasizes flexible multiplayer sessions. Steam-based online play, LAN connections, and bot integration allow matches from two to ten participants. Shared or split-screen options extend local play. The game targets both casual sessions and more structured competitive play through its mix of destruction mechanics and ability-driven characters.

Is It Worth Playing?

Dirtnap enters Early Access on August 28, 2026, as a fully playable title with the listed features already implemented. The combination of fully destructible terrain, fluid simulations, unique Dirtling abilities, and four distinct game modes creates a focused arena shooter experience. Players seeking matches built around environmental interaction and character variety will find direct appeal in the described systems. Those who prefer static maps or traditional loadouts without terrain alteration may find the core loop less engaging. The planned Early Access period allows community input on balance and additional content before a full release. Availability on PC through standard digital storefronts positions it for immediate access once launched, with no separate free modes or trials confirmed at this stage.
