About Dead Market

Dead Market - about the game

Dead Market is a single-player strategy card game for PC that centers on managing debt in a competitive match structure. Players compete across three districts to claim two out of three rounds, with every powerful play carrying a cost recorded in a shared Ledger that both sides monitor closely.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around building advantages on the board while tracking obligations in the Ledger, a second board that holds up to five lines of debt. Each line includes a cost in souls, a timer that ticks down only on the player's own turns, and occasional interest effects. At the start of a turn, timers advance, and any due debts must be paid or defaulted on. Defaulting serves as a deliberate tactical choice rather than a failure, allowing players to avoid large penalties when a round is already slipping away.

A sixth debt line forces the oldest obligation to resolve immediately, turning an overloaded Ledger into a high-risk position that often decides matches. Five distinct factions shape how debt interacts with play. The Red Notaries focus on forcing lines into the opponent's book for profit. Grave Sovereigns treat their own units as expendable resources, using deaths to activate Last Wills and recover value. Candle Children emphasize sealing units instead of destroying them and can remove lines from either Ledger. The Hungering Deep empties opposing decks as a win path, removing cards permanently. Free Mortals emphasize quantity, wide board presence, and direct strikes against the opponent's debts.

Every one of the 247 playable objects features unique artwork, with 190 available for collection. The system rewards careful timing of when to accept credit and when to refuse it, making each round a balance of immediate board impact against future repayment.

Game Modes

A six-act campaign forms the main single-player experience, featuring six bosses that each alter one fundamental rule and five possible endings influenced by earlier choices. The Night Auction provides a draft-style run where lots appear sequentially, players select one card from each, and then compete using the loaned deck while the market tracks additional debts. The Street of Unpaid Names offers persistent contracts that remain available indefinitely alongside daily refreshed options, with no stamina or time gates limiting access.

A ranked ladder with nine grades tracks performance, while a card stall prioritizes unavailable cards for purchase. A detailed tutorial walks through one complete scripted match in 53 steps to demonstrate mechanics in action. These modes emphasize repeatable strategic depth without external dependencies.

Accessibility and Design

Extensive options support varied play styles, including color-vision profiles, high-contrast modes, UI scaling, enlarged card text, reduced motion, toggles for screen shake and flashing, subtitles, sound-effect captions, mono audio, high-frequency filtering, and night mode. Seven independent volume controls allow fine adjustment. All meaningful information appears through multiple channels to ensure clarity.

The entire game runs offline as a self-contained single-player title with no accounts, network requirements, or data collection. A 26-section player's guide generates directly from the ruleset to maintain accuracy, and round resolutions display every triggered effect in sequence with on-screen explanations for why events occurred.

Is It Worth Playing?

Dead Market suits players who enjoy deliberate, systems-heavy card strategy where decisions about risk and repayment drive outcomes. Its unique Ledger mechanics and faction-specific approaches to debt create consistent tension across matches. The offline single-player focus, comprehensive tutorial, and built-in accessibility features make it approachable for those seeking a contained experience without ongoing commitments. With a planned release on November 2, 2026, the title stands ready for anyone drawn to thoughtful deck construction and tactical debt management in a strategy card game format.
