About Daedalia

Daedalia - about the game

Daedalia is a first-person action and adventure game built around multiplayer matches in a Greek-themed labyrinth. Up to eight players enter a fresh maze each session, where the goal centers on collecting three key items to open the golden door: the sanctuary key, the Golden Fleece, and sufficient ichor. The environment functions as a competitive arena filled with hazards that players can trigger on one another.

Gameplay

The labyrinth generates anew for every match, ensuring no fixed routes or safe paths. Traps activate throughout the corridors, including hatches that drop players, wall plates firing arrows, and spiked presses that sweep through straight sections. A Shade can also tip a brazier to send lava flowing into passages. Many deaths result from traps set off by other participants rather than direct confrontation.

Death shifts a player into the role of a Shade without removing them from the session. Shades occupy a hall above the sanctuary and remain active by sending waves of fear to disorient the living, placing pillars of light to assist their team, or possessing maze creatures such as skeletons, spiders, the Medusa, or the Minotaur. Accumulating enough fervour allows a Shade to return as one of the living. The experience intensifies as living players dwindle and face increasing pressure from the remaining Shades.

Combat relies on three distinct weapons. The sword delivers fast, precise strikes suited to single targets. The axe swings slowly across a wide arc, clearing groups but leaving the wielder exposed. The bow requires charging for effective shots and rewards careful timing. Blocking reduces incoming damage, while a well-timed parry offers additional benefits. These mechanics apply equally to other players and to enemies including warrior skeletons, spiders, bats, the hellhound, the Medusa, and the Minotaur.

Navigation tools help manage the chaos. Ariadne's Thread projects a red line along the floor toward the golden door. The Wings of Daedalus increase jump height. Sprinting consumes stamina. An Altar of Ichor allows purchases of arrows, elixirs, and blessings. A full minimap remains available at all times to track position and activity.

Game Modes

Matches support up to eight participants through Steam-hosted sessions with direct invites or classic LAN play. The core loop remains consistent regardless of connection method: the same seed generates the maze for all players, and built-in voice chat facilitates coordination. One player may enter as the Empusa, a disguised impostor who drains life from trusting allies until identified. This hidden role adds a layer of suspicion and deduction within the larger competition.

Progression through a match naturally evolves the player count and roles. Living competitors thin out while Shades grow in influence, culminating in a final confrontation between the last survivor and the accumulated swarm. No separate playlists or variants appear beyond this unified experience that blends exploration, combat, and role shifts.

Is It Worth Playing?

Daedalia suits players who enjoy asymmetric multiplayer sessions where death leads to continued involvement rather than elimination. The combination of procedural layout, trap interactions, Shade possession mechanics, and the potential for an impostor creates repeated tension across matches. Weapon variety and timing-based defense add depth to encounters against both players and creatures drawn from Greek myth.

The game remains in Early Access, so the feature set and balance continue to develop. Those drawn to first-person labyrinth navigation, team-based survival against evolving threats, and myth-inspired enemies will find the described systems align closely with that preference. Availability on PC through standard distribution channels makes it accessible for groups seeking co-operative or competitive play without external server setup.
