About CrossVeil

CrossVeil - about the game

CrossVeil is a strategy indie RPG card battler set across four distinct painted worlds connected through a central hub called the Exchange. Players take on the role of guardians hired to push back against a spreading influence from the Underworld that disrupts each world by targeting its core resources and structures one piece at a time.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on deck building and tactical card battles. Each of the four worlds features its own unique set of cards, enemies, and guardians. Battles occur on maps that lead to boss encounters, with every world consisting of three maps. Guardians bring special abilities that activate during combat, and they gain strength through earned stars. New cards drop from victories, and duplicates combine to level them up for stronger effects. Deck construction focuses on matching cards to a chosen guardian while adapting to the threats in each world. The Exchange serves as the hub between fights, where players hire additional guardians using gold earned from battles and listen to conversations that expand after each chapter.

Game Modes

CrossVeil delivers its experience through a single-player campaign structure that spans the four worlds. Players begin with one guardian per world and expand their roster by hiring others at the Exchange. Progression moves sequentially through the maps in each world, culminating in boss fights that test built decks and guardian abilities. The narrative unfolds gradually through guardian dialogue in the Exchange, revealing connections across the worlds without separate multiplayer or competitive modes. Controller support allows comfortable play from a desk or couch, and the game includes localized text in several languages for broader accessibility.

The Four Worlds

Hearthwild features lantern-lit swamps where crocs and minotaurs displace residents and control waterways. Infinite Arcade unfolds in a neon city where a red panda gang and Ascend Dynamics consolidate power district by district. Crooked Wonder revolves around a carnival whose atmosphere gets bottled and smuggled, with trails leading underground. Tempest Reach involves sky islands isolated by false storm warnings originating from the king's castle. Each world maintains its own card pool and enemy types, encouraging players to refine decks and guardian lineups as they advance.

Guardians and Progression

Guardians form the heart of customization. Starting options exist in every world, with more available for hire using battle rewards. Each guardian contributes a unique ability usable in combat and improves with repeated use through star accumulation. Card acquisition and upgrading happen naturally during runs, allowing decks to evolve toward specific strategies. The system rewards experimentation across the four worlds while maintaining a consistent focus on resource management and tactical placement during fights.

Is It Worth Playing?

CrossVeil suits players who enjoy single-player strategy card games with RPG elements and a contained campaign. The structure of four self-contained worlds with distinct themes, combined with guardian hiring and card upgrading, provides steady progression and replay value through different guardian choices and deck builds. Full controller support and multiple language options broaden its appeal for those seeking a focused experience without ongoing live-service elements. Those drawn to deliberate deck crafting and world-specific challenges will find the systems rewarding, while the Exchange conversations add layers to the overarching story as chapters complete.
