About Backrooms: Steal the Furniture

Backrooms: Steal the Furniture - about the game

Backrooms: Steal the Furniture is a co-op horror comedy game for one to four players on PC. It places participants in the role of Backrooms Inc. employees who noclip into the infinite yellow offices to recover misplaced furniture and return it upstairs for sale. The rent remains due every three days, creating constant pressure to haul stock through damp carpet and narrow corridors while avoiding the entities that inhabit the space.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on locating furniture with a radiation radar, physically carrying pieces such as sofas, filing cabinets, and lamps back through the maze, and selling them on the store floor. Two-person lifts help with heavier items, yet players can also drop loads on teammates for comedic effect. Proximity voice chat serves as the only communication tool, and the entities respond to sound, forcing teams to stay quiet or risk drawing attention. Tools include flashlights, chalk for marking paths, glowsticks, decoys, almond water, and an energy drink that boosts speed at the cost of control. Physics govern every carry and collision, while first-person hands match the five distinct playable colleagues handed out randomly each shift.

After each shift, earnings feed into the company casino featuring blackjack, roulette, and the PAIROTS slot machine. Players bet with earned chips on a buyable bonus round that offers a maximum win of ten thousand times the stake, complete with fireworks on a big payout. Losses or shortfalls lead directly to eviction notices and the team being put out on the pavement.

Game Modes

Most shifts begin in the standard yellow rooms of Level 0, where the layout changes with each procedural generation. Occasional rolls send the team to Level 1, a parking deck filled with dead cars and storage cages, or Level 37, the poolrooms featuring knee-deep water and distant skylights. Level 9 appears less frequently as a midnight suburb where every other house stands empty. The job stays the same across these variations, yet the terrain and entity behavior shift, requiring fresh navigation and caution. The casino phase follows every successful return regardless of the level explored.

Entities and Survival

Six entities operate under distinct rules that players must learn to survive. The Smiler moves only when unobserved. The Mimic replicates voices to lure teammates. Others include the Bacteria, Frontman, Skitter, and Faceless, each arriving with audible cues and heavy footsteps that transmit through the floor. When the ambient hum ceases, movement becomes urgent. Body cameras record every moment for later review in shift reports that grade performance from F to A and tally clips and casualties. Persistent failure empties the till and resets progress for the group.

Is It Worth Playing?

Backrooms: Steal the Furniture suits players who enjoy co-op horror with strong comedic elements and a clear progression loop tied to quota management. The blend of physical hauling, proximity chat tension, and post-shift gambling creates repeated sessions where teamwork and quick thinking determine outcomes. Random character assignment and cosmetic options such as hats, outfit colors, and dances add variety without altering core systems. The corporate framing, complete with intercom announcements and eviction risks, reinforces the horror through mundane pressure rather than gore. Those seeking a light-hearted yet tense multiplayer experience centered on exploration and resource recovery will find the mechanics rewarding, while solo players may prefer titles without the emphasis on coordinated lifts and voice coordination.
