About AXE DESCENT

AXE DESCENT - about the game

AXE DESCENT is a single-player roguelite turn-based command RPG developed for PC. Players build decks from more than 600 skills, chain abilities across three stages, and adapt strategies amid randomized runs through the Rift dungeon.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on deck construction and tactical execution in turn-based battles. After defeating enemies, players select one skill from a random set to add to their deck, ensuring each run presents fresh options. Skills enter a draw pile and cycle through Chain 1, Chain 2, and Chain 3 before moving to the discard pile, which reshuffles when empty. This shifting availability forces constant reevaluation of combinations available each turn.

Quick Skills operate outside the main chain and activate without using a turn, creating opportunities for layered effects when paired with standard skills. Equipment includes Weapons, Wills, and Potions that upgrade at dedicated facilities using limited resources. Players decide allocation priorities to support their evolving deck rather than maxing every option.

Skill Modification allows attachment of effects discovered during runs, altering how individual skills function. Later progression unlocks Custom Skills, where players define power, attack count, and special triggers while the system calculates activation cost based on chosen values. Large Enemies feature destructible parts that players can target to weaken specific sections or focus on the main body depending on their build.

Random NPC encounters offer battles, trades, events, or companion recruitment with randomized abilities. The Preparation Base provides pre-run customization of starting decks and equipment, blending planned strategies with in-run adaptability.

Game Modes

AXE DESCENT supports only single-player mode. All gameplay occurs in solo runs through the Rift, with no multiplayer or co-op features listed. Runs vary through randomized skills, equipment, NPCs, and facilities, but the structure remains consistent across attempts.

Conquering Rifts grants special items that unlock new features and additional stages. Progression through these unlocks expands available options for future runs without altering the fundamental single-player format.

Key Mechanics and Progression

Resource management extends beyond combat into facility upgrades and equipment choices. Limited resources mean players must prioritize synergies between skills and gear rather than pursuing every upgrade path equally. Companions add another layer of randomization, as their abilities change each encounter and can influence battle outcomes significantly.

The Rift itself functions as the central dungeon, with elements like enemy skills, treasure contents, and available facilities shifting per run. This design emphasizes adaptation over repetition, rewarding players who adjust their approach based on what appears rather than relying on fixed builds.

Is It Worth Playing?

AXE DESCENT targets players who enjoy roguelite deck-building combined with turn-based tactical decisions. The emphasis on chaining skills, modifying existing abilities, and creating custom skills provides depth for those who like experimenting with combinations in an ever-changing environment.

Since the game has not yet released, player reception data remains unavailable. It features single-player focus with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing support. The planned release date is October 30, 2026, and the title is currently available for wishlist on Steam.

Fans of systems that reward both long-term deck planning and moment-to-moment chaining choices may find the freedom in skill selection and custom creation appealing. Those seeking multiplayer options or established review consensus should wait for launch to assess fit.
