Su-39 jest eksportową wersją zmodernizowanego dwusilnikowego turboodrzutowego jednomiejscowego saomlotu szturmowego Su-25TM. Myśliwiec jest uzbrojony w dwulufowe działko GSz-30-2 kalibru 30 mm.
