About Forts - Moonshot

Forts - Moonshot - about the game

Forts Moonshot expands the physics-based real-time strategy game Forts with a dedicated campaign and fresh mechanics focused on fort construction, weapon deployment, and battlefield control. Players command the Combined Forces against Black Penguin Oil forces in a setting that emphasizes structural engineering, projectile physics, and resource management across Pacific Rim locations.

Gameplay

Core play revolves around designing and reinforcing forts with bracing, weapons, and devices while managing energy and structural integrity. The Moonshot expansion introduces specific tools that alter combat dynamics. Buzzsaw weapons shred bracing and background supports before self-destructing after three shots. Smokebomb projectiles blind anti-air defenses, halt enemy construction and repair, and block laser weapons. Howitzer shells deliver massive structural damage with projectiles that withstand multiple hits. Magnabeam devices pull incoming projectiles toward their impact point.

Portals add layered attack and defense options. Players link portals to route weapons through them, reverse fire direction, and draw energy while active. Capture points introduce derrick control as a central objective. Connecting to a derrick reduces enemy points, and holding more derricks accelerates depletion until the opposing blast door opens and exposes the reactor for direct assault.

Three new commanders bring distinct playstyles. Buster grants cost-free foundations and lets AP snipers mark targets for silos while providing depleted uranium shells and EMP snipers that disable weapons and doors. Moonshine equips shields that block AP snipers and function like doors, plus an active that converts AoE weapons to EMP effects. Phantom enables cloaked weapons until damaged, dummy weapons that appear ghosted, instant uprooting and relocation, hidden internal portals, and silent doors, with an active that cloaks the entire fort and silences weapons.

Game Modes

The Moonshot campaign spans four new theatres of combat across the Pacific Rim. Progress unlocks the listed weapons and features while players recover moontech resources. A dedicated capture point mode requires teams to contest derricks to trigger the endgame reactor phase.

Skirmish matches against AI and multiplayer battles remain available, with the new weapons, portals, commanders, and capture point rules integrated into custom maps and existing formats. Sandbox tools support testing of the expanded arsenal and portal linkages without campaign constraints.

New Commanders and Features

Combined Forces commanders integrate directly into fort building and combat. Each offers passive bonuses that reshape shield behavior, weapon visibility, or foundation costs alongside active abilities that shift damage types or concealment. The update also supplies a dedicated Combined Forces HUD and an original soundtrack that underscores the Pacific Rim campaign.

Is It Worth Playing?

Players who enjoy physics-driven fort construction and tactical weapon placement will find Moonshot adds meaningful variety through its campaign structure and capture point objectives. The expansion delivers a complete single-player experience with four theatres plus new multiplayer options that reward control of key battlefield assets. Reception highlights the campaign as solid and challenging while noting the imaginative weapons and commander abilities that keep matches distinct from the base game. The DLC stands as a worthwhile addition for those already invested in Forts or seeking a focused strategy experience centered on structural combat and resource denial.
