About Virtual Board Game Room

Virtual Board Game Room - about the game
Create and play custom board games in a 3D sandbox simulation on PC. Build setups with included elements like dice, cards, and figures, or import your own 3D models and textures from tools such as Blender. Up to six players join a virtual room through a self-hosting network system for interactive sessions over the internet. Test prototypes quickly as a developer or enjoy multiplayer matches with friends, from simple Ludo to complex strategy titles like Chess and Go. The base version packs ready games including Backgammon, Checkers, Domino, and more, plus UV maps and example textures. Players and creators alike gain full creative control in this editable environment.

The virtual board game room (VBR) is a sandbox system that allows you to create board games and play them interactively with friends via a network. In addition to a variety of ready-made board game elements such as dice, playing cards and figures, it is also possible to load your own 3D models and add textures.

We aim to give users as much creative freedom as possible while providing a powerful framework to be able to depict and develop board games as faithfully as possible. As a game developer, it is possible to quickly create playable and testable digital prototypes from your initial ideas in order to present and optimize them in a sophisticated way.

VBR is a working tool for players and developers alike. Create your own board games, share and play them with your friends or test your games in a simple way, without much material effort.

Up to six players can meet in a virtual room and enjoy the freedom of a real gaming table. As in real life, VBR does not implement any specific game rules, but offers a generic space for developing individual ideas.

The multiplayer function is based on a self-hosting system in which each host participant provides the server for other players. This basis grants users a maximum degree of freedom and the greatest possible independence from third-party systems

From the classic Ludo to highly complex strategy games, a large number of board game mechanics can be implemented. From chess and Go to D&D and Hero Quest, only your imagination sets the limits.

VBR itself does not offer any possibility to model 3D bodies or edit textures in the moment. It combines these types of resources in a playable and editable environment. To push your artistic skills to the limit, we recommend using external programs such as Blender, Gimp and InkScape. All VBR content was created with these three tools.

Main features:
  • A freely editable and playable 3D environment with appealing visuals and excellent performance density
  • A growing library of integrated game material, free textures, figures and ready-made board games
  • Maximum creative freedom through importing 3D data and textures
  • Up to six players simultaneously per virtual room via local network
