FIRE CHESS is a strategic, turn-based game designed to train emergency responders in wildfire management and crisis decision-making.
Command diverse firefighting units across a procedurally generated hex-grid map, using limited resources to contain spreading flames, protect communities, and respond to critical alerts while incorporating real-world firefighting tactics and emergency response principles.
Use Action Points to Recruit Units
Each turn you'll gain Action Points. These are your main resource used to recruit new units and to resolve alerts. Each turn players will gain one action point, and can earn more from an interest bonus or a sucessful alert resolution.
Make sure to plan ahead! Newly recruited units take a couple of turns to arrive, and specialized units will take even longer.
Contain the fire spread
Each turn, a unit may move and use their ability. Moving uses stamina. If a unit does not move or use it's ability in a turn, it will rest and recover all lost stamina. Use your units and their abilities to contain the fire spread. Each unit has a distinct tactical role that will be necessary in the fire fighting effort, managing them is key to your success.
Protect key structures & locations
Some tiles like neighborhoods, high-density residential buildings, and schools are very valuable to the community. Losing them will significantly impact the community health. Other tiles like the communications tower and fire stations support important gameplay functions. You may want to dedicate some units specifically to protecting these tiles!
Decide how to respond
Sometimes a tile might have a specific problem that requires your attention and you will be presented with an alert, represented by a red pin above the tile. Each scenario has three ways for you to address it. Certain options may require Action Points, a specific amount of community health, or a certain unit nearby.
Choose carefully! The resolution you choose may yield a useful reward or inflict a detrimental consequence.
