About ArcRunner

ArcRunner - about the game

ArcRunner is a third-person cyberpunk roguelite shooter set on a futuristic space station called The Arc. Players take on the role of one of several characters tasked with resetting a rogue artificial intelligence that has turned hostile. The core experience revolves around fast-paced gunfights against waves of robotic enemies while navigating procedurally generated environments across distinct zones such as the dystopian streets of The City and the upscale districts of Eden Heights.

Gameplay

The gameplay centers on run-based progression through randomized levels filled with enemy swarms. Combat involves looting weapons from defeated foes or environmental pickups, with examples including the cluster-firing Demolisher shotgun and the precise Plasma Bow. Each character class offers distinct starting tools and abilities that shape combat approaches, from heavy-hitting melee options to agile movement and technical hacks.

After clearing a level, players spend collected nanites on temporary power-ups and augmentations that carry forward within a single run. Between runs, permanent upgrades purchased in the cryochamber allow investment in stats like damage output, health pools, and additional weapon modification slots. This meta-progression system encourages repeated attempts as players refine their loadouts over time. The action remains third-person throughout, emphasizing positioning, dodging, and ability timing against groups of sentient machines.

Game Modes

ArcRunner supports solo playthroughs where a single character tackles the full sequence of zones alone. It also includes cooperative options for up to three players, available both locally and online. In co-op sessions, participants coordinate strategies to handle larger enemy groups and share resources while progressing through the same randomized levels. No additional competitive or versus modes exist beyond these cooperative and single-player variants.

Character Classes and Progression

Three primary classes define starting playstyles. The Soldier emphasizes brute force with access to shields and melee weapons for close-quarters control. The Ninja focuses on mobility and stealth tools such as invisibility and katana strikes for hit-and-run tactics. The Hacker leverages technical abilities to disrupt enemies from range. One class begins locked and unlocks through story progress. Weapon variety expands through looting, and permanent nanite upgrades let players attach modifications that boost damage or enable multiple equipped firearms simultaneously.

Is It Worth Playing?

ArcRunner launched in 2023 and maintains a mixed reception with 68 percent positive reviews from roughly 195 user submissions on its primary distribution platform. The title appeals most to players who enjoy roguelite structure combined with co-op shooting in a neon-lit cyberpunk setting. Those seeking varied weapon experimentation and incremental power growth across runs will find the loop engaging, particularly when playing with friends to manage tougher encounters. Single-player sessions can feel grind-heavy for some due to the reliance on meta-upgrades, while the randomized zones help maintain freshness across attempts. The game offers no ongoing seasons or major post-launch content updates based on available information, positioning it as a complete standalone experience best suited for fans of the genre rather than those expecting constant new features.
