About Tolerance

Tolerance - about the game

Tolerance is an indie casual simulation game centered on operating a same-day CNC machine shop. Players handle incoming orders under constant time pressure, with the core challenge arising from hand-tracing premium parts that the machine then cuts exactly as drawn, flaws included.

Gameplay

The central loop involves processing jobs in a shared workshop environment. Basic tasks cover dispatching orders, moving stock, operating the machines, and performing quality checks with calipers. Premium jobs require tracing the part outline by hand on a board, after which the CNC faithfully reproduces every line variation. A clean trace delivers a perfect stamp and bonus pay, while any wobble or hesitation produces a flawed piece that still ships to meet deadlines.

The shop environment adds ongoing complications. Fires can spread across the floor, machines jam or break down requiring repairs, electrical breakers trip from overload, and loose parts scattered around can trip players. An intruder element appears periodically, turning one player into an impromptu bouncer armed with a wrench. All resources sit in a single till and bank account, so every outcome affects the entire group regardless of individual contributions.

Materials progress from pine through oak and steel to titanium, each presenting distinct handling characteristics rather than simple visual changes. One-cut jobs evolve into multi-operation sequences as the business expands, and daily bills rise alongside new equipment purchases to set the ongoing difficulty level.

Game Modes

Cooperative play supports one to four participants online with fully shared responsibilities and results. Roles emerge naturally from who grabs which tool or station at any moment, covering dispatcher, stock runner, machinist, inspector, electrician, mechanic, or bouncer as situations demand. No pre-assigned positions exist, and blame or success lands equally on everyone when a part ships.

Solo operation functions as the baseline experience rather than a simplified version. The single-player shop presents the same workload and hazards, requiring one person to juggle all tasks including emergency responses. The campaign follows a continuous progression without level selection or acts, advancing through material tiers until the aerospace contract arrives as the finale milestone.

Endless mode unlocks after completing the campaign. It shifts focus to long-term survival and shop management under escalating conditions once the main contract goal is met.

Shop Progression and Upgrades

Seven permanent shop upgrades become available through earnings and directly alter floor operations. These purchases raise both the daily operating costs and the potential for higher-volume or more complex work. The campaign structure ties advancement to fulfilling contracts on the phone system, with each material tier introducing new mechanical demands.

Shared finances mean upgrade decisions impact the whole crew, encouraging coordination on what to purchase next. The absence of private wallets reinforces the collective outcome focus across every shift.

Is It Worth Playing?

Tolerance suits players who enjoy chaotic cooperative simulations with physical tracing mechanics and reactive workshop hazards. The emphasis on shared responsibility and emergent roles creates consistent tension whether playing alone or with others. Those drawn to precise hand-eye coordination challenges alongside light management elements will find the hand-tracing system and material progression engaging. The game delivers a complete solo experience that matches the multiplayer intensity, making it accessible for different group sizes or solo sessions. Its campaign structure provides clear milestones through contract progression while the post-campaign endless option extends play for those seeking longer-term runs. Overall, the title appeals most to fans of short-session co-op comedy mixed with simulation depth rather than traditional action or strategy titles.
