About The Industrial Council

The Industrial Council - about the game

This game runs a local LLM, allowing you to talk to characters in the game as if they were people. Behind the AI dialog lies a game world that is rich in lore and storytelling as well.

The city of Raversul is undergoing an industrial revolution. Elves have long dominated the city, ruled by the elven King Gorluin and his Council of Mages, but the invention of the steam engine by the gnomes has turned the politics of the city on its head. Now the industrialists are pressuring the king to introduce an Industrial Council, and others, the orcs in particular, have even more radical politics.

The elves still rule Sym Caelora and its capital city of Raversul, but they are increasingly viewed as out of touch with the new industrial nature of the city. They live in the Old City, where magic still holds sway, surrounded by art and beauty but increasingly isolated in their ivory towers. Below them in the Middle City (no longer new) live the dwarven clans, who have long been the artisans of Raversul, but are slowly being put out of business as factories mass produce goods at half the price. Orcs and hobbits, traditionally rural peasants and overseers, are increasingly migrating to the city to work in the factories, mostly settling in the slum along the railroad tracks known as the Kanvak.

Magic and technology do not work well together- spells fizzle around steam engines, while machinery goes haywire in the presence of magic. One way or another, the future of Raversul must be decided by its many denizens... and by you.

You are Albert Forsythe, a journalist who has just arrived in the city by train, the only human to walk the streets of Raversul. In your suit jacket pocket is a small red imp named Aristophanes, who takes notes on all your conversations and keeps track of quests for you (an AI replacement to the in-game journal, as well as a fun companion). You will explore Raversul, learning the ins and outs of the city and its politics, mysteries, and stories. Every day you and your imp assistant will publish a newspaper, which will be read by everyone in the city.

Raversul is a complicated place, and you will help decide its future. Will magic hold out against the forces of change, or will it fade into obscurity in the face of unstoppable progress? Will the elves retain control of their ancient fiefdom, or will new political forces rise to overtake them? With your imp at your side and your newspaper as a mouthpiece, you can play a powerful role in shaping the future of the city.

This game is a spiritual successor to Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Every character, quest and storyline in the game is hand-crafted with love. The game is voiced by an LLM, and the graphics are simple and mostly AI generated, but each character has a unique, detailed prompt and the game lore was all written by hand (no AI went into the writing portion of this game). A lot of work also went into making the LLM roleplay well and be fun and interesting to talk to.

I hope you enjoy exploring Raversul as much as I have. Turn on your favorite string quartet and get cozy. This game will suck you into its world like no other game you have ever played.

This game requires 24 gb of VRAM to run properly. It should run in regular RAM as well, but very slowly. Try the free demo first!

Please note that the model currently runs slowly because it has not yet been trained on the game's background information- instead all the info is stuffed into the context window, which makes it very large. The full game will run as quickly as conversations with the imp for all characters.
