About Taskbar Parade

Taskbar Parade - about the game

Taskbar Parade is a free to play indie casual simulation game for PC that places a small marching parade of animal friends directly above the Windows taskbar. A duck captain leads hamsters, frogs, penguins, capybaras, and a dinosaur in a gentle procession that runs quietly in the background while users work, study, or stream. The experience centers on light interaction and steady progression without demanding constant attention or interrupting other applications.

Gameplay

The core loop revolves around the parade moving along a simple path just above the taskbar. Friends waddle forward, pause to sit, peck at virtual crumbs generated by typing, and settle into naps during periods of inactivity. Bond levels increase through time spent together, including walks, pets, treats, and daily wishes. After reaching the highest bond tier, friends continue earning bond stars indefinitely.

Optional input tracking counts key presses and clicks when the crumbs from typing setting is enabled, though the game records only totals and never logs specific keys or mouse actions. This feature can be disabled entirely in settings. The parade automatically hides during full screen applications to avoid overlap with primary work or entertainment.

Collection systems add depth without complexity. Friends appear in normal, gold, and galaxy coats. Hats come in forty varieties across six themes, with set bonuses available for wearing three or five matching pieces that also grant parade titles. Thirty souvenirs from six locations arrive via expeditions, alongside postcards that document new places visited and a travel diary that fills itself. Flags for the captain and forty six achievements provide additional goals.

Game Modes

Quiet mode serves as the default experience, keeping the parade small, calm, and free of numbers or pop ups. It prioritizes a subtle presence that does not interfere with productivity. Lively mode introduces more activity, including scrolling backdrops and interactions where parade members bonk grumpy crows and picnic geese.

Expeditions function as a timed progression system. Players send individual friends to locations such as the beach or snowfield for one, four, or eight hours. Returning friends bring acorns, souvenirs, occasional charms, and increased bond progress. Daily wishes appear each day with three simple requests from friends, such as receiving five pets or completing a two kilometer walk together. Completing these grants acorns and supports streak maintenance, with forgiveness for a single missed day.

Streamer mode restricts the display to the parade only, allowing clean capture through OBS game capture for overlay use during broadcasts. Trading operates through Steam items, enabling exchanges of hats and friends, listings on the community market, or upgrading ten spare items into one rarer version. Crates arrive periodically during play at a rate of one every thirty minutes, capped at ten per day, with no paid loot boxes involved.

Collections and Progression

Progression ties directly to consistent, low effort engagement. Sparkles occasionally appear on the path and can be clicked for rewards before they disappear. Petting any friend delivers a squish animation and a heart effect. Expeditions and wishes feed into the broader collection of coats, hats, souvenirs, and achievements, creating a steady rhythm of small daily tasks.

The system rewards patience rather than intense sessions. Bond growth accumulates naturally from time spent with the parade, while expeditions provide passive gains during offline periods. Trading adds a social and economic layer for players interested in exchanging items with others on the Steam platform.

Is It Worth Playing?

Taskbar Parade suits players seeking a relaxed desktop companion that runs alongside other activities. Its free to play model includes no paid loot boxes, and the optional nature of most interactions keeps pressure low. The combination of gentle visuals, simple collection goals, and background progression appeals to those who enjoy idle style elements without heavy commitment.

Users who value customization through hats and themes, or who appreciate the ability to trade items, will find additional reasons to engage. Streamers benefit from the dedicated mode that supports clean overlays. The game remains accessible for casual play while offering enough systems to maintain interest over time through daily wishes, expeditions, and ongoing bond development. Those looking for a light, non intrusive addition to their PC routine will likely find it a pleasant fit.
