Planet Munchers is a 3D incremental destruction strategy game for PC in which players guide a growing swarm of woodlice through a series of planetary feedings. The experience blends casual progression with deeper strategic choices around swarm growth, planet selection, and permanent upgrades, all centered on turning a small group of bugs into a massive force capable of consuming entire worlds.
Gameplay
The core loop begins on a tiny grey meteorite where a handful of hungry woodlice crawl, dig, and eat automatically. Players collect Chunks from each meal to purchase more munchers, improve bite strength, increase movement speed, and enhance feeding efficiency. The swarm expands visibly across surfaces, into cavities, and through remaining material until a planet is fully consumed.
After each world, two destination options appear in space. Players compare rewards and drawbacks before committing the swarm to the next feeding ground. The 64 available planet types range from soft surfaces and mineral-rich rocks to skulls, pumpkins, hollow geodes, and unusual cosmic forms. Choices influence DNA gains, difficulty, and temporary modifiers that shape the current run.
Defenses complicate later stages. Buried turrets, shielded machinery, and nine guardians protect key worlds. Players deploy targeted tools including a laser aimed through the planet, a voxel nuke to tear loose chunks, and Shockwave to strip exposed layers. Additional variants and winged attackers supplement the main crawling swarm as it advances into complex structures such as lattices, nested shells, and giant helices.
DNA earned from completed expeditions funds a branching tree of 98 permanent adaptations. Upgrades cover starting swarm size, time extensions, instinct improvements, armored crushers, supportive tenders, and winged attackers. Research branches also strengthen the Nursery for tackling larger worlds later in the campaign.
Game Modes
The primary campaign spans nine solar systems and 45 worlds. Each guardian acts as a checkpoint, allowing the current swarm and remaining time to carry forward into subsequent systems. Three save slots support separate colony growth paths.
Time Trial unlocks after the first two systems. Players attempt all 45 worlds under a single 20-minute clock. Planet selections provide temporary adaptations alongside their standard modifiers, enabling fresh swarm builds for each attempt while preserving campaign DNA and research progress. The mode emphasizes faster clears and system mastery.
One hundred achievements track collection goals, speed challenges, and other milestones across both campaign and Time Trial play.
Progression and Visuals
Swarm growth scales dramatically from a small pack to as many as 10,000 creatures in late stages. Dense crawling packs, flying voxel fragments, and tumbling chunks create constant visual feedback during feedings. A compact side HUD keeps essential information visible while players rotate and zoom the camera freely.
An arcade sci-fi soundtrack accompanies the action. The game runs on a custom voxel engine that supports the detailed destruction and large-scale swarm behavior without performance issues on standard PC hardware.
Is It Worth Playing?
Planet Munchers suits players who enjoy incremental strategy combined with satisfying destruction mechanics and short-to-medium session lengths. The automatic swarm behavior reduces micromanagement while planet choice and adaptation decisions provide meaningful strategic depth. Campaign structure offers steady progression across multiple systems, and Time Trial adds replayability through time-limited runs and build experimentation.
Those drawn to casual strategy titles with visible growth and voxel-based visuals will find the core loop engaging. The permanent upgrade tree and multiple save slots support long-term investment without requiring constant play. Availability on PC makes it accessible for sessions of varying length, particularly for fans of swarm-style incremental games that emphasize feeding and expansion over direct combat control.
