About APOX

APOX - about the game

APOX is a real-time strategy game on PC that blends traditional RTS base building and resource management with direct control elements drawn from first-person shooters. Players command squads in a post-apocalyptic setting where individual soldier actions matter as much as overall strategy.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on directing units with FPS-style precision. Soldiers can drop prone or crouch behind cover, switch between carried weapons, throw grenades, and search fallen enemies for supplies. Ammo is finite for each soldier, yet teammates share it automatically when positioned nearby. Vehicles serve as mobile platforms that players assign to infantry, allowing custom unit compositions that combine different troop types and armaments into single controllable entities.

Standard RTS systems remain intact. Bases expand through construction, resource nodes provide ongoing income, and map control points grant strategic advantages. The hybrid approach demands attention to both macro planning and micro execution, as poor positioning of individual soldiers can waste limited ammunition or expose squads to unnecessary losses.

Game Modes

Eight dedicated training missions introduce the unique mechanics step by step, covering basic movement, combat, vehicle integration, and resource handling. Once familiar with the systems, players access 100 scrimmage maps for practice against AI opponents.

Single-player skirmishes run entirely offline against bots. Co-operative play lets friends join the same side against AI forces. Versus mode supports direct competition between human players, with support for matches reaching 32 participants through an internet lobby that includes matchmaking, clan tools, player ratings, and performance statistics. A built-in map editor allows creation of additional scenarios for both local and online use.

Multiplayer and Longevity

Matches scale from small skirmishes to large-scale battles where coordination across multiple squads and vehicle groups determines outcomes. The combination of limited ammo and seamless resupply encourages tight formation play and careful looting during fights. Map variety across the 100 scrimmage options provides repeated play without immediate repetition, while the editor extends replayability for those who create custom content.

Is It Worth Playing?

APOX appeals most to players who enjoy hybrid strategy experiences that reward both high-level planning and precise unit handling. The 2011 release remains available on PC with its full feature set intact, including offline skirmish and the map editor. User reviews on major platforms show mostly negative feedback, with 24 percent positive ratings from over one hundred submissions. Those drawn to the specific mix of prone mechanics, vehicle customization, and large-scale versus matches may find value in its distinctive approach despite the age of the title and mixed reception. New players should expect an older interface and limited ongoing updates.
