Buy Altus Chess-Urban Play PC Key

This content requires the base game: Altus Chess-Archaic Beginnings

Where to buy Altus Chess-Urban Play at the best price? As of 15 Aug 2026 this title has one offer, $4.99 at Steam. On PC that is the usual case, because only about one title in four gets a keyshop offer and the rest stay with the platform store. There is nothing to compare, but we track this price daily and show how it stands against earlier readings, and a price alert will tell you about any drop. This is an add-on, so you also need the base game to play it. That costs $5.10 today, which puts the pair at $10.09. On PC you buy a key that you activate in Steam or another client, and this is the widest market we track, with more than a quarter of games carrying a keyshop offer.

About Altus Chess-Urban Play

Altus Chess-Urban Play - about the game

Altus Chess-Urban Play is a strategy indie simulation title for PC that expands the core chess experience with two new compressed tournament boards. These variants keep every classical rule, piece movement, and range intact while shrinking the playing field to create faster, more immediate confrontations.

Gameplay

The new boards measure 12x8 and 18x12. On the smaller layout, four empty ranks separate the pawn lines, so opposing forces meet by turn two. The larger of the pair leaves eight empty ranks, allowing slightly more development time before contact occurs. In both cases, familiar openings lose effectiveness because there is less space and time to maneuver. Long-range pieces gain relative strength, and pawn promotion can happen in roughly five turns instead of requiring extended campaigns. Positions tend to close early and remain tight throughout the match.

Every piece behaves exactly as it does on the original larger boards. The reduced space simply compresses the timeline and forces earlier decisions. Players who enjoy calculating sharp tactics under pressure will find these setups rewarding, while those who prefer slow-building positional play may need to adjust their approach.

Game Modes

Four established modes carry over without change. Play supports two players sharing one machine on either new board. Observer lets a third person watch a match in progress. AI Challenge provides a ladder of computer opponents tailored to each board size. Puzzles offers an open sandbox where any position can be constructed and tested. Saved games from Urban Play load alongside existing ones through dedicated menus for each board, and exiting a match returns the player to the appropriate starting screen.

Board Variations and Strategic Impact

The 12x8 board uses the full 12x12 roster and produces rapid early contact. The 18x12 board deploys the complete 18x18 lineup, including specialized pieces such as the Lord, Slip Gate, and Odin's Hand. These long-range units cover even greater portions of the smaller field in a single move, which accelerates the pace further. The result is a more aggressive version of the same underlying system, where development windows shrink and tactical exchanges begin sooner.

Is It Worth Playing?

Altus Chess-Urban Play suits players who already enjoy the base game's classical rules and want quicker matches without learning new mechanics. The compressed boards reward precise calculation and punish hesitation, creating a distinct feel from standard chess while preserving every familiar element. With no user reviews available yet on the platform, reception remains an open question, but the design clearly targets enthusiasts seeking condensed strategic depth. Those who prefer deliberate, long-form games may find the accelerated contact less appealing than the original larger boards. The title remains a premium single-player focused experience with local multiplayer options, available on PC.
