About Trick or Roll

Trick or Roll - about the game

Trick or Roll is an indie casual single-player game on PC that puts a fresh spin on classic tilt mechanics. Instead of steering a ball directly, players tilt entire floating stages to guide a hamster inside a glass ball through a spooky-cute Halloween world. The core loop centers on reaching a glowing jack-o'-lantern goal within a strict 60-second limit while collecting candy and avoiding falls off the edges.

Gameplay

The central mechanic requires players to adjust the angle of each drifting platform so gravity pulls the ball forward along plank roads, narrow rails, and moving sections. Conveyors shift direction to push or pull the ball, sweeper bars swing to block paths, tilting planks create dynamic ramps, and launch pads send the ball airborne across gaps. Paths start wide in early areas and tighten into thin rails later, demanding precise control to stay on track.

Candy appears as wrapped pieces worth one point and larger buckets worth ten. Collecting one hundred candies grants an extra life. Each stage begins with four lives, and losing one occurs from falling off the edge or letting the timer hit zero. Reaching the goal awards both a time bonus and a candy bonus. The visual style features hand-inked outlines, halftone shading, glowing lanterns, and bouncy squash-and-stretch animations paired with pop-up sound effects on every impact.

Controls support a gamepad with the left stick for tilting and the right stick for camera rotation. Keyboard input uses WASD or arrow keys with adjustable sensitivity, while mouse tilt activates through a single key press. Four playable characters offer visual variety: Biscuit the golden hamster, Maple the red panda, Pip the hedgehog, and Bandit the raccoon.

Game Modes

Thirty stages divide into three themed sets that represent progressive difficulty across one night. The Beginner set, Pumpkin Patch, unfolds during golden hour with boardwalks, pumpkin bumpers, corn conveyors, and a scarecrow spinner. The Advanced set, Moonlit Graveyard, shifts to blue dusk featuring crypt bridges, coffin conveyors, ghost wheels, and a wormhole mausoleum. The Expert set, Witch's Workshop, arrives at midnight amid gear grinders, cauldron conveyors, crystal mazes, and lightning rods.

Players can tackle any unlocked stage for practice or clear all ten stages within a set to complete it. No separate multiplayer or competitive modes exist; the experience remains focused on solo progression through the fixed sequence of challenges.

Visuals and Presentation

The art direction blends comic-book aesthetics with Halloween harvest motifs under a giant moon. Floating stages drift against starry skies, and environmental details like lanterns and bumpers reinforce the festive yet eerie atmosphere. Animations emphasize physical feedback, with the ball squashing and stretching on contact while sound cues highlight every bump and roll.

Is It Worth Playing?

Trick or Roll suits players who enjoy precise single-player puzzle platformers built around tilt controls and short, repeatable stages. The 60-second time limit and life system create a clear loop of trial, adjustment, and improvement without overwhelming complexity. Three difficulty-progressing sets provide a natural ramp from accessible boardwalks to intricate gear-filled mazes, and the candy collection adds a light scoring layer that rewards careful pathing.

Because the game remains in a coming-soon state with no released version yet, no player reviews or rating data exist to reference. Those drawn to casual indie experiences with strong physics feedback and a compact Halloween theme will likely find the mechanics engaging once it launches. The limited scope of thirty stages and straightforward rules keep sessions focused rather than sprawling.
