About Tow Rage

Tow Rage - about the game

Tow Rage is a racing game for PC that centers on chaotic vehicle combat and a distinctive objective: players must catch a speeding tow truck, climb its ramp, and stay on the platform for five uninterrupted seconds to claim victory. The core loop mixes high-speed pursuit with aggressive ramming, shooting, and disruption as up to five rivals compete for the same spot on the truck. Cars feature 100 health points and explode on depletion before respawning after three seconds, keeping the action continuous across every session.

Gameplay

The action unfolds on seven distinct tracks that range from open desert stretches and rally paths through forests and industrial zones to an island circuit, snowy terrain, and a volcanic cave filled with instant-kill lava lakes. Each lap rewards precise driving mixed with combat, as weapon crates scattered around the course supply the arsenal. Every vehicle carries two weapons simultaneously, one assigned to each button, allowing quick switches between offense and defense. Leading the pack invites incoming fire and rams, while trailing positions often yield stronger pickups to close the gap. Cars visibly dent, smoke, and shatter into metal fragments during heavy impacts, adding visual feedback to every collision. Two controller schemes are available: a racing layout that maps acceleration and braking to triggers, or a combat layout that prioritizes weapon fire on the same inputs.

Game Modes

Four modes support different play styles and group sizes. Story mode strings together seven consecutive races from desert to volcano, with only one life per race; a single knockdown forces a restart of that stage, and clearing the final race secures the cup. Arcade mode lets players select any map, set the number of AI rivals up to five, toggle weapons, and choose lives, then decide between truck-chase rules or a standard lap race. Split-screen supports two to four local players, each using their own gamepad and vehicle on the same display. Online rooms accommodate up to six participants in public or private sessions, with Steam friend invites supported; a second gamepad also allows a guest to join the host in split-screen during online play.

Progression and Customization

Players advance through 50 levels that unlock new garage options with every rank gained. Available vehicles include sports cars, an off-roader, an armored car, a 1950s classic, and a cyberpunk-styled ride. Customization extends to 21 color schemes, 31 wheel sets, and three transmission choices that alter top speed, acceleration, and grip. Experience points accumulate in every mode for participation, victories, and destroying rivals, steadily expanding the collection without requiring separate progression tracks.

Arsenal and Combat

Weapon crates deliver a broad selection that rewards both aggressive and tactical approaches. The machine gun fires 20 rounds at ten shots per second with a 150-meter range, dealing five damage per hit plus knockback and can be doubled. The rocket launcher sends three homing projectiles at 90 meters per second that explode in an eight-meter radius for up to 45 damage and possible flips, also doublable. Mines drop three dynamite charges that deal up to 55 damage in a five-meter blast and can ride along the truck if they land on it. Additional tools include a front ram shield for eight seconds that nullifies incoming attacks while dishing out 10 to 35 damage on contact, wheel spikes that extend for six seconds to punish side swipes with 15 damage and lane displacement, triple shockwave pulses that blast nearby cars outward, an EMP that disables engines and weapons for three to five seconds, a bubble shield absorbing up to 90 damage over six seconds, a homing cube that electrocutes the leader, a tornado that spins contacted vehicles into the air for 10 damage, a lightning cloud that scrambles steering for three to five seconds, rear flames that burn 14 health per second, and caltrops that strip control for three seconds along with 15 health. Stronger items tend to appear when running last, while leaders must defend against concentrated fire.

Is It Worth Playing?

Tow Rage suits players who enjoy short, intense racing sessions built around a single high-stakes objective rather than traditional lap racing or pure shooters. The combination of local split-screen, online rooms, and flexible arcade settings makes it accessible for both solo runs against bots and group play with friends. Story mode provides a structured challenge with permadeath per race, while customization and weapon variety keep repeated sessions engaging through different vehicle and loadout experiments. Those seeking straightforward competitive racing with combat layers and immediate respawns will find the systems rewarding without unnecessary complexity.
