About Skeletons and Stuff

Skeletons and Stuff - about the game

Skeletons and Stuff is a single-player action roguelite for PC that pits four distinct heroes against endless waves of skeletons in a compact, card-driven combat loop. Players select one of four heroes and fight through seven battles that build toward a final confrontation with the Bone King, with every run focused on quick decisions about abilities and upgrades amid rising hordes.

Gameplay

Combat unfolds as one continuous wave per battle, with skeletons spawning around rune pillars while the hero cuts them down. Level-ups pause the action for card selections that add new abilities, upgrade existing ones, or boost stats such as attack speed, crit chance, or luck. Cards appear in six rarities, and higher luck increases the chance of stronger options. Players can reroll unwanted cards with gold or purge them permanently for the current run.

Each hero starts with an auto attack and three ability slots, and abilities can receive up to ten upgrades. The Wizard relies on elemental magic including storms, fire, frost, chain lightning, meteors, ice rings, and tracking storm clouds. The Huntress focuses on precise ranged attacks with bolts. The Barbarian uses heavy axe swings that shatter bones. The Pirate blends close-quarters fighting with opportunistic strikes. Dark pacts offer high-risk rewards, such as Blood Pact for doubled damage at the cost of healing or Glass Soul for reduced health in exchange for increased damage output. Restless Dead accelerates enemies while boosting rewards per kill.

Three ghostly skulls provide optional support. Charles increases damage taken by affected targets. Ezekiel deploys a ring of fire when threats close in. Bjorn slows groups with frost breath. A cat named Hugo simply follows without contributing to combat. Skeletons vary in behavior: armored types resist auto attacks, lightning variants resist abilities, gold ones charge and explode, and wizards fire projectiles. A Skeleton Captain appears periodically, while elite encounters conclude with the Bone Brute. Bonus areas include the Vase Vault, where smashing containers forces card picks, and shrines that trade gold for abilities. Shrooms scattered on battlefields offer minor benefits when consumed. Three environments host the fights: the Ashen Crypt, the Forsaken Woods, and the Frozen Pass.

Game Modes

The core experience centers on standard runs that progress through seven battles to the Bone King. Victory ends the structured portion, after which the horde continues indefinitely with gradual strength increases every thirty seconds; this phase contributes only to the final score. Players can opt to convert any battle into an elite version for improved rewards. Dark Braziers can be lit mid-fight to summon tougher enemies in exchange for higher points. Between runs, collected souls feed a talent tree containing twelve talents with five ranks each, benefiting all heroes. Successful runs unlock modifiers that increase difficulty while raising soul and score payouts, including a Hardcore option that ends the run on a single hit.

Progression and Customization

Persistent progress comes from the shared talent tree and unlocked run modifiers. Card systems encourage repeated experiments with ability combinations, while luck and gold management influence build quality. The limited ability slots and upgrade caps force focused commitments rather than broad experimentation within a single run. Enemy variety and environmental details keep individual battles distinct even as the overall structure repeats.

Is It Worth Playing?

Skeletons and Stuff targets players who enjoy roguelite runs built around card choices, risk-reward decisions, and horde survival. The four heroes offer clear mechanical differences that reward learning their preferred upgrades and pacts. The short battle structure and immediate feedback on card picks suit short sessions, while the talent tree and modifiers provide long-term goals. With no release date earlier than 2027 and no player reviews available yet, the game remains in development; its appeal will depend on how the card system and enemy behaviors hold up under repeated play. Those drawn to single-player action with roguelite elements and dark humor in the pacts and companions may find the premise engaging once it launches.
