About Rise From Ashes

Rise From Ashes - about the game

Rise From Ashes is an action indie game for PC that blends tactical deck building with survivors-like horde survival. Players climb the Spire through a fog-shrouded world, assembling a deck of Scrolls to carve through waves of enemies while the screen fills with projectiles and summons. The core loop centers on preparation outside each run and precise movement and positioning during combat, where synergies and build choices determine success more than random drops.

Gameplay

Combat delivers pure bullet heaven pressure across floors that demand longer survival times as players ascend. Near the base, a floor might require just over a minute of endurance. Higher up, the timer stretches to six minutes while the horde intensifies. Movement stays simple, freeing attention for positioning amid the chaos of auto-firing Scrolls and enemy attacks. The horde includes distinct foes such as the Skeptic, a warhorse pinned by a stake yet still firing, and the Vainglorious, a four-faced mask that directs followers instead of striking directly.

Scrolls form the heart of every build. Players buy them from a rerollable rack using Embers, then merge copies to raise Star Grade. At three stars, a Variation unlocks that fundamentally alters the skill, such as turning a straight-traveling scythe into one that sweeps in all directions or removing a cooldown entirely. Sigils bind into compatible Scrolls to add numbers, pierces, summons, extra triggers, or even new synergies. Star Grade also opens Sigil slots, so upgrading one element directly enables the other. Builds remain flexible because the deck can be torn down and reassembled before every battle.

Permanent progression happens in the Village between Challenges. Memories and Prisms occupy a six-tier tree split across Attack, Defense, and Utility. Prisms cover shapes on the tree to grant secondary effects like folding Life into Armor or providing a revival per Challenge, with only four Prisms available and no overlaps permitted. Testaments act as rune pages tied to Main Synergies, rewriting class behavior at its core when that synergy activates in the deck. Both systems reset at no cost, encouraging experimentation without penalty.

Game Modes

Runs unfold as Challenges inside the Spire, each floor presenting a survival test against the horde. The Wheel of Fate spins three reels before every floor, letting players select one of three resulting stages or hoping for a match that fuses them into something stronger or riskier. Additional elements include one-shot World Gimmicks such as the Ravenous Furnace, which burns half the player's Embers to lay down a field of fire. Floors fall into categories like Battle, Event, Rest, Treasure, and Boss, with Events resolving through illustrated panels and weighted choices.

Outside runs, the Village serves as the hub for deck assembly, permanent upgrades, and preparation. No separate multiplayer or seasonal modes appear in the core structure, keeping focus on single-player runs that emphasize buildcraft and adaptation.

Progression and Customization

Synergies drive long-term decisions. Main Synergies commit to a class such as Blood Knight, which caps Life yet grows stronger as it drops, Plaguebearer for stacking poison, or Ranger for turning dashes into volleys. Sub Synergies refine traits like faster projectiles or additional summons, activating at different thresholds from one Scroll to nine. This forces choices about how many limited slots to dedicate and when. The black-and-white ink-and-hatching art style frames the world like comic pages, while the interface uses bold color like a cover, reinforcing the sense of opening a volume rather than launching software.

Is It Worth Playing?

Rise From Ashes suits players who enjoy survivors-like action paired with deep deck-building and synergy planning. The emphasis on pre-run assembly and flexible rebuilding rewards thoughtful choices over luck, while the increasing floor demands test positioning and adaptation. Permanent systems in the Village add meaningful progression without locking players into one path. Those drawn to tactical horde survival with comic-inspired presentation and systems that punish spreading thin will find a focused experience here. The game supports single-player runs with no confirmed multiplayer elements or ongoing seasons at this stage.
