About Mowed Down

Mowed Down - about the game

Mowed Down is a multiplayer action game for PC that blends hide and seek mechanics with ride-on mower chases across detailed yards and arenas. Players split into two roles in lobbies that support up to 40 participants: some control props that blend into the environment while others drive mowers to hunt them down. The core loop rewards clever positioning and timing for props alongside sharp driving and awareness for mowers.

Gameplay

Half the players act as props such as wheelie bins, hay bales, dumpsters, beehives, letterboxes and safety cones. Remaining still lets a prop merge with real objects in the yard, but any movement risks exposure. Mowers use ride-on vehicles where the blade cuts only while moving forward. Running over actual props stuns the driver, and the lawn records stripes from every pass to help track covered ground. Props earn daredevil points when visible to a mower, with bonuses for proximity, movement and big taunts that triple the score. Additional abilities include copying nearby props, dropping decoys, climbing walls and a single defensive zap. Mowers come in four varieties: the balanced Ride-On Mower, the fast but slow-turning Garden Tractor, the slow Old Timer with its large blade and dash, and the tank-like Combine that clears wide paths. Drivers can dash, use ramps for hops and ground-pound to stun nearby props. Mowers collide solidly with each other, producing honks on bumps, spins from rams and flips on poor landings. Each mower can bring along one of 16 dog breeds that bark to alert when a prop is nearby without identifying it. In the lobby players stand in a garden holding weed whackers, trim grass, bonk friends and stand in a circle to choose hunter roles while selecting tracks on the jukebox. The host starts the match by pulling the Big Mower's cord.

Game Modes

Matches run in Infected or Elimination formats with adjustable rules for mower count, round numbers, hide and hunt timers, grass regrowth and haunting ghosts. Elimination lets caught players return as ghosts that honk to mislead hunters, make real props wobble and haunt mowers to impair steering. Voice chat emerges from props at a size-adjusted pitch, and the Loud Lawn option opens the entire lobby to live mic. Every catch triggers a kill-cam and each round produces a savable Play of the Round clip. Thirteen awards track standout moments. Solo mode pits a single mower against AI props with six behaviors that increase in difficulty the longer a run lasts. A Daily Chaos option delivers the same map, sky and mutators to all players each day. The Egg Hunt event places hidden eggs on a dedicated map that unlock exclusive mower paints and the Santa rider.

Map Creation and Arenas

A full map editor ships with the game and matches the tools used for official content. Users select plot sizes from 42 meters to 140 meters, then apply seven tools to place cover, ramps and props, scatter vegetation, set spawns and edit details. Fourteen palettes cover buildings, vehicles, furniture, street items, signs, containers, trees, rocks, fences, bushes and disguise props. Objects snap to 1-meter or half-meter grids and support rotation, scaling, raising, tinting and movement via mouse or keys. One-click testing drops the creator onto a mower in the new map. Finished maps publish directly to the Steam Workshop with preview images, and updates replace the existing item. Subscribed maps appear in the picker for solo and online sessions, and hosts send the file to the lobby so others need not subscribe. Nine arenas recreate real-world locations at appropriate scales, each with matching disguises and nine sky options from Midday Sun to Midnight with night-vision goggles. Bigger arenas extend the hunt timer. Mutators such as Low Gravity, Caffeinated, Tiny Props, Decoy Swarm and Wobbly Wheels further vary matches.

Is It Worth Playing?

The game includes a free demo with the Backyard arena, online lobbies up to six players and solo mode that matches only with other demo users. The full release offers no microtransactions or stat boosts, instead letting players earn coins through play to purchase 19 characters, stackable attire, four mowers, 15 paints, pride flags and dashboard plushies. Nineteen Steam achievements cover specific feats. Full gamepad support with rebindable controls, UI scaling from 80 to 150 percent, reduced motion options and adjustable field of view make it accessible. Streamer mode hides names, lobby details and join codes. Host options include friend invites, five-letter codes, password protection and LAN play by IP, with spectators filling open slots. The combination of asymmetric roles, creative map tools and varied arenas suits players who enjoy casual multiplayer sessions with friends, quick rounds and the ability to build and share custom content. Those seeking straightforward competitive action or deep single-player campaigns may find the focus on social lobbies and prop-hiding less appealing. The absence of paid extras and presence of a playable demo lower the barrier to trying the experience directly.
