MOLD-09 is an action roguelite for PC that places players in a dark, endless apartment block overrun by the Mycelial Organism Lethal Degeneration, strain 09, known simply as the Mold. The core loop involves clearing rooms filled with hostile creatures and traps, gathering weapon components, and pushing toward the elevator on each floor while managing limited resources and sudden dangers.
Gameplay
Combat centers on modular weapon construction. Players combine a frame with physical parts and modules to shape attack patterns, add effects such as ricochets or homing projectiles, and adjust energy consumption against recharge speed. Weapons dropped by enemies can be taken apart at a workbench or scrapped for Rust, a currency used to purchase upgrades or new components from merchants. A single part swap can redirect an entire loadout toward different playstyles.
Floors present shifting layouts with apartments that require careful room-to-room navigation and arenas that test positioning against waves of enemies. Errands from residents and merchant interactions add choices about risk versus reward. Traps and discarded junk force players to adapt tactics on the fly, whether holding a choke point or retreating before being overwhelmed.
Periodic emergencies interrupt runs with advance warnings. Players must reach the elevator or a sealed shelter locker before the threat activates. Failure to do so ends the attempt. In group play the shelter remains shared, requiring all participants to enter safely.
Game Modes
The game supports single-player runs and online co-op for up to four players. In co-op, teammates explore separate rooms, craft weapons independently, and select personal rewards before regrouping at arenas or the elevator. Individual menus and workbenches do not pause the shared session, keeping pressure on the group throughout each floor.
Both modes follow the same roguelite structure of procedural floors and run-based progression, with co-op emphasizing coordination during large encounters and emergency phases.
Progression and Builds
Each death resets collected Rust, yet permanent upgrades unlocked through the Dispatch system carry forward. These improvements expand starting options and long-term power, allowing players to experiment with new weapon combinations on subsequent attempts. The loop rewards repeated climbs by refining builds around energy management, attack sequencing, and module synergies while the apartment block continues to generate fresh layouts and encounters.
Is It Worth Playing?
MOLD-09 targets players who enjoy roguelite action with deep customization and optional co-op. Its weapon-building system and floor-by-floor decision making provide variety across runs, while the co-op features allow shared exploration without forcing constant synchronization. The title remains in development with a coming-soon release date and no user reviews available yet. Those drawn to dark atmospheric settings, modular crafting, and cooperative survival elements will find the described systems align closely with that preference. Availability is limited to PC through standard digital storefronts once launched.
