About Immortal Coil

Immortal Coil - about the game

Immortal Coil is a single-player strategy card game that combines deep deckbuilding with lane-based tactical combat on PC. Players construct decks from a pool of more than 365 cards spread across five colors, each offering distinct synergies and playstyles. The core loop revolves around building strategies that adapt to opponents who draw from the same card pool, emphasizing timing, placement, and outmaneuvering foes in battles that unfold across lanes.

Gameplay

Combat takes place on a lane-based board where units, spells, auras, and items are deployed strategically. Each player alternates plays, with the enemy gaining opportunities to respond after most card uses. Success depends on precise timing and positioning to control the flow of battle. A secondary Icon Deck of two to five cards provides reliable access to key pieces, drawn every three turns starting from round three. This system ensures powerful units or synergy enablers appear consistently without relying solely on the main deck draw.

Deck construction allows mixing any combination of the five colors, from focused single-color builds to full five-color setups. Specific pairings highlight aggressive approaches with certain colors or control-oriented strategies with others. Enemies mirror access to the full card roster, forcing players to anticipate and counter common threats through clever placement and resource management.

Game Modes

Adventure Mode functions as a roguelike experience where players start by pairing two starter deck kits and choosing an Edict power. Runs progress through zones with color-themed encounters, allowing trades at bazaars, acquisition of Augments for altered abilities, and upgrades to the Edict after boss victories. World Cards handle navigation between fights, offering options to visit markets, recover health, remove unwanted cards, or trigger events, with each play drawing the next card to create an ongoing decision layer.

Gauntlet Mode shifts focus to constructed play using a full collection. Players build decks in either 30-card or 50-card formats and ascend a series of battles without the variable mechanics of Adventure Mode. Victories yield Sigils for purchasing card packs, testing pure deckbuilding skill and tactical execution across increasing difficulties that eventually unlock Exalted mode.

Deckbuilding and Progression

Progression centers on expanding options through leveling and pack openings, which unlock additional starter decks for Adventure Mode up to a total of 30 pairings. This variety ensures each run feels distinct based on initial kit selections. The journey spans 25 zones across three acts, with opportunities to incorporate new colors or refine existing ones via bazaar trades and Augments that reshape core rules.

Customization extends to boards and card sleeves earned during play, supporting visual personalization of builds. The emphasis remains on high skill expression through repeated experimentation with color combinations and Icon Deck choices to optimize for different encounter types.

Is It Worth Playing?

Immortal Coil targets players who enjoy strategic card games with roguelike elements and constructed challenges. Its systems reward careful planning around color synergies, Icon timing, and adaptive responses to shared card pools. The dual modes provide contrasting experiences: one focused on evolving runs with world navigation and another on refined collection-based competition.

As an upcoming title without an official release date, it currently offers no playable version or player reviews. Those drawn to lane-based combat, multi-color deckbuilding, and modes that blend roguelike progression with gauntlet-style testing may find the described mechanics compelling once available. The structure supports both short sessions in Gauntlet and longer, variable campaigns in Adventure Mode.
