About Gravefever

Gravefever - about the game

Gravefever is an action indie game built as a survivors-style action roguelike for PC. Players enter a fight against endless monster waves that grow into overwhelming floods across multiple arenas. The core loop centers on leveling up, selecting upgrades, and carving through enemies until the swarm ends the run. A visible timer tracks the score for each attempt, emphasizing survival duration over outright victory.

Gameplay

The experience begins in a quiet village using only a basic attack. After reaching level ten, the first real skill becomes available. By level thirty, a massive bear guardian appears as the map's protector. Defeating this boss opens a portal to the next area. Runs typically last around thirty minutes for skilled players, though most end sooner due to the escalating pressure.

Three distinct hunters define the combat approach. The Fighter relies on bare-knuckle punches delivered in an arc that repels groups while featuring a Death Rattle passive for revival. The Gunslinger fires shots where every sixth round counts as lucky and can call down a falling nuke for heavy area damage. The Sorcerer applies slows and freezes in a radius, deploys a shattering barrier for protection, and summons an ice age effect against clustered foes. Each hunter starts with a basic attack and passive, then unlocks three skills through leveling plus a final evolution at level ninety.

Progression happens through level-up cards that offer three choices. Core stats build up to ten stacks, and skills split into two upgrade branches that end in a capstone selection. Late-game specialist stats such as Bloodlust and Momentum appear to refine builds further. The combo counter rises without limit, with some runs exceeding five thousand hits. Map changes occur every thirty levels, shifting from the starting village through a glowing forest, desert war camp, mushroom glade, and final graveyard. Four gatekeeper bosses guard the transitions, each with unique patterns including triple rampage charges, vanish-and-ambush teleports, skullfire mortars, and spore pools that linger on the ground. Dodging their major attacks causes a stagger that doubles incoming damage.

Game Modes

Gravefever centers on a single core experience of repeated runs through the five arenas. Each attempt follows the same structure of wave defense, leveling, and boss confrontations, with death resetting the current run while preserving permanent progress. No separate named modes exist beyond this roguelike loop.

Progression and Builds

Death does not erase all advancement. A detailed report lists the cause of failure and damage dealt during the attempt. Gold collected feeds into the Armory for permanent stat improvements and a single-use second life available once per run. Quests track personal records and grant rewards. Head Start unlocks allow future runs to begin at higher levels such as ten, thirty, sixty, ninety, or one hundred twenty after reaching those milestones. Additional elements include cursed shrines that triple spawn rates for forty-five seconds in exchange for rewards, random kill events that grant double or triple experience and damage boosts, exploding suiciders, spitting casters, gold-filled critters that flee, map hazards, mega-boss treasure chests, and per-map pickup buffs. Controls prioritize keyboard input with optional mouse aiming, supported by two UI themes and Steam Cloud saves.

Is It Worth Playing?

Gravefever suits players who enjoy survivors-style action roguelikes that emphasize build crafting and endurance against increasing odds. The branching skill upgrades, hunter variety, and arena progression create meaningful choices that reward experimentation. Permanent systems like the Armory and Head Start provide steady advancement between runs, while the death recap and quest tracking add layers of feedback. Those seeking short, high-pressure sessions with clear scoring will find the timer and combo mechanics engaging. The game delivers a focused single-player loop without additional modes or live-service elements.
