About DRONECOM

DRONECOM - about the game

DRONECOM is a real-time action strategy simulation set in a near-future naval environment where sensor management defines every engagement. Players command from a combat information centre, balancing detection capabilities against the risk of revealing their own position through emissions. The core tension revolves around emissions control, or EMCON, as active sensors extend range at the cost of visibility to opponents, while passive operation preserves stealth but limits situational awareness.

Gameplay

The sensor model accounts for physical factors including emitter power, target signature, distance, terrain masking, and Earth curvature to determine contacts. Four domains cover radar, sonar, infrared, and optical systems in both active and passive modes. Passive tracking provides bearings rather than precise ranges, requiring target-motion analysis, cross-fixes from multiple receivers, or frequency-difference geolocation to build firing solutions. Propagation effects include radar horizons that low-flying units can exploit, line-of-sight blocking by terrain, Doppler notches in ground clutter, thermocline layers in water, convergence zones, and cavitation noise from high-speed movement.

Authentic displays present data through NTDS symbology on plots, B-scopes, and bearing-time recorder waterfalls. Battle damage assessment demands confirmation from additional sensors rather than instant verification. A built-in blueprint system supports creation of submarines, surface ships, aircraft, helicopters, missiles, and torpedoes by combining chassis, sensors, warheads, engines, and flight models. Trade-offs involve payload versus speed, signature versus sensor capability, and range versus stealth, with all units following identical physics rules. Carrier operations include launching, recovering, refueling, and rearming from flight decks, well decks, vertical launch systems, and torpedo tubes while tracking fuel, inventory, and overall economy. Identification relies on detection confidence levels, with datalink sharing among allies and potential for misidentification leading to friendly fire incidents.

Game Modes

Single-player sessions pit commanders against AI opponents on procedurally generated archipelagos. The full cycle of design, deployment, detection, and attack unfolds in solo play where the enemy follows the same sensor constraints. Online play supports hosting or joining sessions for direct head-to-head matches or allied teams facing AI together. Spectators observe the complete tactical picture from the combat information centre view. All units exist as editable data files, enabling modifications to chassis, sensors, warheads, flight models, and AI parameters through text editing, with shareable map seeds for procedural archipelagos.

Design and Presentation

The interface adopts a dense military-standard tactical console aesthetic focused on information display rather than visual spectacle. An adaptive synthwave soundtrack responds to ongoing events in real time. The experience targets players interested in detailed sensor mechanics similar to those in specialized naval simulations, combined with fleet customization options and a sandbox approach that avoids strict historical accuracy or speculative science fiction elements. The game remains in active development with the core loop of solo and online functionality already operational.

Is It Worth Playing?

DRONECOM suits those who value precise sensor modeling, emissions management trade-offs, and custom unit design in a strategy simulation context. The single-player campaign against capable AI and the online options for competitive or cooperative matches provide distinct ways to engage with the systems. Modding support extends replayability through community adjustments to units and environments. As a title still in development with no completed reviews available, potential players should consider the emphasis on information warfare and procedural scenarios when deciding on a wishlist or future purchase. The grounded near-future setting and focus on carrier-based drone operations deliver a specialized experience for enthusiasts of tactical depth over broad action elements.
