About Deadtone

Deadtone - about the game

Deadtone is an action strategy indie game for PC in which players defend a fortress against waves of zombies drawn by protective sirens in a post apocalyptic world.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on positioning defensive weapons around fortress walls to repel incoming zombie hordes. Turrets, flamethrowers, and mortars must be placed to cover gaps and create overlapping fields of fire that catch advancing enemies in crossfire. Players monitor the line for the heaviest pressure and redirect support as needed while the horde grows from hundreds in early operations to hundreds of thousands in later ones.

Earnings from each successful defense fund new weapons and upgrades. Skill tree choices allow permanent improvements bought with dog tags that carry forward across regions, while doctrine cards provide temporary tactical variations for individual fronts. Support options such as air strikes, napalm drops, and attack helicopters can be called in at critical moments to clear ground or thin the ranks before they reach the walls.

After each assault the cleanup helicopter collects bodies for additional cash, which players reinvest before the next wave. The map tracks progress as liberated regions shift from red to their natural colors, advancing the campaign from Western Europe through varied environments including deserts and snowbound industrial districts toward Oceania.

Game Modes

Deadtone structures its experience around a progressive campaign of operations across twelve regions. Each operation pits the fortress against escalating zombie numbers, requiring adaptation to changing weather and threat types. Players select weapon placements and angles anew for every front while permanent upgrades persist between regions.

Doctrine cards introduce variety by letting players experiment with different defensive approaches on successive fronts without altering the core campaign structure. The single player focus keeps attention on long term fortress management and resource allocation rather than competitive or cooperative elements.

Progression and Upgrades

Advancement relies on balancing immediate defensive needs against long term power growth. Early earnings buy basic turrets and support tools, while later operations demand more sophisticated combinations of weapons and skill tree branches. Dog tags earned in victories unlock permanent enhancements that strengthen defenses in every subsequent region.

Doctrine cards add replayability within the campaign by offering alternative tactical doctrines for each new front. Players must decide when to push forward and when to strengthen existing positions before tackling harder operations that feature dramatically larger hordes.

Is It Worth Playing?

Deadtone suits players who enjoy deliberate tower defense strategy combined with resource management and incremental progression. The emphasis on placement, crossfire coverage, and adapting to growing threats provides a focused single player experience that rewards careful planning over rapid reflexes.

Those who prefer games with escalating challenges across multiple regions and the ability to carry permanent upgrades forward will find the structure engaging. The absence of multiplayer or additional modes keeps the experience streamlined around the core fortress defense loop described in the source material.
