About Cursor Cult

Cursor Cult - about the game

Cursor Cult is a strategy simulation game for PC that turns everyday mouse movement into the driving force behind two pixel-art tribes. The game runs as a transparent desktop companion, placing a small island along the edge of the screen where villagers live and develop across multiple historical ages. Players do not control units directly. Instead, the path and behavior of the cursor every twenty seconds is interpreted as an omen that shapes farming, industry, trade, faith, learning, or conflict.

Gameplay

The core loop centers on passive observation mixed with occasional deliberate gestures. While working or browsing on the computer, the cursor trail is read automatically. Circles encourage agriculture and population growth. Vertical strokes promote resource extraction and workshops. Horizontal movements support markets and commerce. Frantic shaking leads to military structures and can sour relations between the tribes. Gentle wandering promotes peace, resting the cursor builds temples, and movement along the far screen edge advances scholarship. Complete stillness produces no change and eventually unsettles the population.

Two tribes occupy opposite ends of the island and respond only to omens on their respective halves of the screen. Each advances independently from the Stone Age through Bronze, Iron, Kingdoms, and Industrial eras, with buildings, weapons, ships, and aircraft updating accordingly. Relations between the tribes shift based on the omens chosen, allowing wars to flare and then resolve without either side being eliminated. Hovering motionless over villagers causes them to kneel, while shaking the cursor above a settlement summons lightning. Sound remains understated, limited to omen announcements, distant conflict, and age transitions, with an option to mute entirely.

Game Modes

Cursor Cult operates as a single continuous simulation experience rather than offering separate named modes. The island persists across sessions through automatic saves, and the same world carries over whether the window is oriented horizontally or vertically. Players may focus attention on one tribe, the other, or both by positioning the cursor accordingly. The setup encourages long-term background running during normal computer use, with intentional gestures added when the player chooses to influence events more directly.

Desktop Integration and Customization

The application is designed to remain visible and interactive without interfering with other programs. It stays on top of the desktop, allows clicks to pass through except on the island itself, and supports docking to any screen edge or free placement. Size and panel visibility can be adjusted, making it suitable for different monitor setups and workflows. The experience supports both English and Simplified Chinese interfaces.

Is It Worth Playing?

Cursor Cult appeals to players interested in low-maintenance strategy and simulation titles that run alongside daily computer tasks. Its unique cursor-driven omen system provides a novel way to influence tribal development without requiring constant attention or traditional controls. Because the game is still listed as coming soon with no user reviews available, potential buyers should consider whether the passive, ambient style matches their preference for background companions over active gameplay sessions. Those who enjoy watching systems evolve from subtle inputs may find the concept engaging once released.
