Arch Rogue delivers a free-to-play isometric action RPG experience built around the classic rogue formula. Players descend through ten procedurally generated depths where every run creates fresh floors, enemies, and treasures. Permadeath ends each attempt, yet knowledge, discoveries, and unlocked options carry forward to shape future efforts. The game runs on PC with full controller support and native Steam Deck compatibility.
Gameplay
Ten depths form the core structure, each featuring themed biomes, chokepoints, traps, secrets, and dark floors illuminated only by a lantern. Floor plans guide the run with escalating threats, elite packs, ruin ambushes, treasure vaults, and optional challenge rooms. Five bosses stand in the way: the Ash Gallows Knight, the Mycelial Matron, the Rime Chanter of the Ninth Bell, the Voidbound Rune Sentinel, and the Dread Gate Tyrant at the bottom.
Combat unfolds in real time with melee arcs, ranged bolts, arc novas, and a dash, all managed through stamina, mana, and cooldowns. Enemies display readable telegraphs, while elites carry named modifiers and Oathbound minibosses add pressure. Every room presents tactical decisions rather than simple brawls.
Loot drives long-term engagement through five archetypes: Warden, Rogue, Arcanist, Acolyte, and Ranger. Each offers active abilities, passive talents, branch commitments, and combo bonuses. Items span six rarity tiers with ARPG-style affixes covering damage types, resistances, lifesteal, thorns, procs, and speed. Unidentified items, cursed bargains, and unique relics further encourage build experimentation.
Game Modes
Single-player runs form the primary mode, emphasizing solo exploration and decision-making across the seeded dark-fantasy storyline. Story guests and Aid, Bargain, or Defy choices create echoes that influence the current run. Seven shrine types, hidden caches, sealed armories, moonlit bargains, and buried lore reward thorough players.
Two-player co-op allows a host to share a four-character code so a second player joins the same dungeon instance. No accounts or sign-ups are required, keeping the focus on shared descent through the procedural layout.
Progression and Atmosphere
Meta-progression unlocks new options across runs without eliminating the tension of permadeath. Four difficulties range from Easy to the unlockable Hell mode. Flavor elements appear off the main path, including a bar with a toast pilgrimage, a moonlit garden, and the Hall of Unlost Echoes, each offering distinct rites and small games.
The overall tone stays grim and focused on replayability. Procedural generation ensures no two runs match exactly, while the seeded storyline provides light narrative threads that interact with player choices.
Is It Worth Playing?
Arch Rogue suits players who enjoy real-time isometric action RPG dungeon crawlers with strong procedural elements and permadeath. The free-to-play model removes any upfront cost, and the two-player co-op option adds a cooperative layer for those who prefer shared runs. Full controller support and Steam Deck compatibility broaden accessibility. Those drawn to roguelike systems, build crafting through archetypes and affixes, and repeated attempts at descending deeper will find the core loop rewarding. The game remains in its initial state with no additional seasons or major updates confirmed at launch.
